1. ART of the TITLE www.artofthetitle.com
The Art of the Title website showcases examples of excellent design in film &
television title sequences. As well as providing high quality video and an analysis
of each sequence, Art of the Title provides a visual summary of the design, with
nine key frames that illustrate the style and tone of the sequence.
Your task this morning is to choose ONE TV Drama from the list of KEY
INFLUENCES on your idea you identified for your last homework. Find a video of
the title sequence online and using screen-grabs choose NINE Key Frames.
Each of the Key Frames you decide to screen-grab should illustrate ONE of the
following NINE design elements:
The title of the show • Setting/location • Costumes & props •
Camerawork & editing • Choice of typography • Story & how the
opening sets it up • Genre & how the opening suggests it • How
characters are introduced • Special effects
Create an A4 document in Pages or Photoshop and present your 9 Key Frames in a
3x3 grid format as on Art of the Title. You should give a detailed analysis of each
frame, explaining how visual elements are used in relation to the nine elements
listed, i.e. establishing setting/location or suggesting genre, etc.
POST ALL THE WORK TO YOUR BLOG BY THE END OF THE LESSON
