More than Just Lines on a Map: Best Practices for U.S Bike Routes
You Can Pull Off These 6 Spring Makeup Trends
1.
2. Spring is the season of change, which
means it’s also the time to change up
your makeup routine. But don’t be
intimidated by the idea of trying new
trends. This year, models at New York
Fashion Week rocked trends that are
easy to recreate for everyday wear. Try
these six stand-out beauty looks and
embrace a new season and a new
look.
3. Blue Lids: The
Mermaid Look
Catwalks for spring 2014 were awash
with ocean blue. Models at Badgley
Mishka rocked a mermaid look with
bright baby blue layered with shimmer
powder. To get the look, swipe bright
blue shadow all over upper lids and
dust a shimmering gold powder on
top. Avoid drowning in a sea of blue by
adding navy liner to the outer corners
of both upper and lower lashlines to
define your eyes.
4. Blue Lids: Fresh &
Bright
At Anna Sui, models nixed eyeliner and
mascara for a weightless, airy look. Try
an opaque, sky-blue or diamond shade
to keep the look light. A pale pink
blush and peach-tinted lips complete
this whimsical look.
5. Blue Lids: Inky
Sapphire
Blue played a darker role on the Emilio
de la Morena runway. Channel
Morena’s models by incorporating an
indigo liner to your usual eye routine.
For just a hint of blue, swap out your
black liner for a navy or cerulean hue.
If you want to go all-out, try a deep
sapphire shadow smudged from
crease to brow bone.
6. Orange Lips: Tropical
Coral
Tired of the typical red lip? Orange is
the new red, and it’s surprisingly easy
to pull off. At DNKY, models sported a
tropical, cheerful look with coral lips
and blush. Add a warm glow to this
bright look with mauve or caramel
eyeshadow.
7. Orange Lips: Striking
Neon
An intense neon hue is the ultimate
way to rock this trend. Models at Rag
& Bone demonstrated the key to
pulling off this look: Keep other
makeup to a minimum. Apply
concealer if needed, but leave out
eyeliner, shadow, and blush to keep
the attention on this bright tangerine
hue.
8. Orange Lips: Pumpkin
Pout
If bright, vibrant orange feels
overwhelming, try the trend with
warm browns and beiges, like models
at John Galliano. Start with a soft,
matte lip in an amber-orange or
pumpkin hue. Apply only one layer of
lip color to keep the shade mellow.
Then, apply a dark brown eyeliner to
outer corners of both upper and lower
lashline. Use a cream shadow or
highlighter on browbone and right
below your cheekbones to finish the
look.
9. Orange Lips: Citrus
Burst
Felling tired? Swap out your coffee for
a fun and fruity lip like models at
DSquared2. Citrus orange shades like
tangerine, peach and apricot will wake
up weary faces better than any
espresso shot. Try a liquid lipstick for
the perfect combination of color and
shine.
10. White Eyes: Subtle
Liner
Although black liner is a classic go-to,
this spring white eye color often
replaced black on the runway. For an
unfussy yet elegant look, mimic the
models at Ralph Lauren and line only
the inner corners of eyes with a white
pencil. Be sure to prep with primer
and layer the color to keep the hue
bright.
11. White Eyes: Cherry
Blossom
What better way to ring in spring than
with the colors of fresh cherry
blossoms? To imitate this pretty look
seen on Tibi’s runway, start by
applying primer from the lashline to
the browbone. Then, line upper
lashline and inner corners with a white
eye pencil. Next, use your finger to
smudge white shadow from outer
corners up to browbone. To complete
the feminine look, finish with a
watermelon lip stain.
12. White Eyes: All Out
For the ultimate trendy look, try
combining both orange lips and white
shadow like the models at Altuzarra. A
blood-orange lipstick paired with
allover white shadow is cool and crisp,
making it perfect for spring.
13. Bare Faces: Dewey
Finish
One of the most popular spring
makeup trends is no makeup at all.
This low maintenance look is quick and
easy for busy days. Achieve a dewey
finish like the models at Alexander
Wang with a moisturizer and non-
tinted lip balm.
14. Bare Faces: Ethereal
Glow
Don’t want to part with makeup
completely? No worries, you can still
partake in the fresh face trend. Models
at Vera Wang kept the natural look
with a pink-tinted lip balm and a
concealer. Add in a translucent or
vanilla-colored shimmer powder to lids
for an added glow.
15. Pinks: Bright Blush
Shades of pink, rose and strawberry
popped up like spring flowers on the
runway this year. At Dolce & Gabbana,
models wore vibrant coral and berry
blush paired with honey eyeshadow
for a charming, effervescent look. For
the perfect flush, apply a powder
blush in a sweeping motion from
below the cheekbone up to the
temple.
16. Pinks: Strawberry Lips
Models at Chalayan were effortlessly
angelic with sweet, strawberry-hued
lips. To mimic the look, buff lips with a
sugar scrub or washcloth to smooth
the surface for longer-lasting color.
Then apply a strawberry lipstain and
let dry. Once the lipstain has set, layer
a moisturizing balm over it for subtle
shine.
17. Pinks: Rose Gold
Pink’s sophisticated alter-ego is the
lovely rose-gold shade. Appropriate for
the office but gorgeous for date night,
this adaptable look from Alberta
Ferretti's show is easy to recreate.
First, use a small makeup brush to dust
rose-gold shadow along lower lashline
and from upper lashline to browbone.
Next, use an angled blush brush to
dust the shadow beneath cheekbones
for all-over shimmer.
18. Smudged Eyes: Bold
Color
Don't limit yourself to bright and light
colors. Models at Rebecca Taylor
perfectly demonstrated how to carry
dark eyes into spring. The key is color.
Instead of charcoal or black shadow,
try a chestnut brown paired with blue-
gray. Add in a touch of emerald for an
even bolder color combo.
19. Smudged Eyes:
Reverse Smokey
Models on the Cynthia Rowley runway
also showcased dark spring eye
makeup, but instead of limiting color
to the upper lashline, they reversed
the smokey eye by building layers of
color on the lower lashline. Try this
trend at home by dusting gold shadow
all over lids. Then, using a liquid black
eyeliner, trace a thick line across
bottom lashes. Before liner is dry, use
your finger to smudge a chocolate
shadow directly beneath the liner,
blending the two for a smokey effect.
