Responsibilities
The IT Service Manager represents the bConnected Platform Service to campus. The position is
responsible for working with IT leadership and campus stakeholders to develop the bConnected services
strategy to satisfy the business needs of our academic, student, research and administrative units
(which, for example, includes managing the overall Google Apps for Education service at UC Berkeley) .
2. The IT Service Manager oversees all stages of the service management lifecycle, including strategy,
design, transition, operation, and continual service improvement. The position is responsible for
directing the bConnected team in designing and implementing effective client engagement and
communications plans and being an active spokesperson for the entire portfolio.
In a nutshell, this is a pivotal position in the organization with numerous key roles including service
representation, relationship management, advocate for service management, vendor relations,
operational escalations, and roadmap/governance/process management.
Primary responsibilities include successful project implementation and service operations through
setting of strategy and policies, prioritization and direction, planning/control of all financials/costs, risk
assessment, procedures to protect organizational assets, and managing project schedul es/scope. Other
duties may include service management and engagement for other IST-API areas. Determines campus
strategies for a program with campuswide impact.
Manages the analysis of the needs of functional departments and helps to establish priorities for
feasibility studies and systems design and implementation to develop new and/or modify information
processing systems. Leads cooperative efforts across IT teams and customers to discover service needs
and develop a service strategy and adoption plan. Coordinates with functional departments involved in
system requirements, techniques, and controls. Advises senior management on matters concerning
several functional areas, department and/or customers.
Required Qualifications
● Demonstrated track record of managing and leading high-performance teams toward the
successful attainment of challenging goals.
● Demonstrated experience as a respected leader, influential in the organization, and a team
player.
● High political acumen and experience working with an extremely diverse client population.
● High commitment to excellence, collaboration, team achievement, and good communication.
● Uses and applies service management and ITIL principles, theories, and concepts to manage and
provide solutions to more complex and multi-dimensional problems.
● Requires an in-depth knowledge of academic culture and IT organizations.
● Requires the ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of diverse functional
assignments.
● Is able to resolve issues using established parameters and own judgment.
● Ability to manage and coordinate day-to-day service management operations and work closely
with various stakeholders to ensure issues are addressed in timely fashion & in accordance t o
user expectations.
● Ability to determine project strategy and scope, lead business system analysis and designs, and
develop realistic estimates and quotations for IT services.
● Ability to balance the long-term (or *big picture*) and short-term implications of individual
decisions
3. ● Ability to work in dynamic environment with competing priorities, a team player comfortable
with working across other groups and collaborating with customers, stakeholders, technologists,
and management.
Preferred Qualifications
● PMP and/or ITIL certifications preferred (but not required).
