Applications of NLP Part 9: Fast Phobia Cure By Ms. Rukmini Iyer Fear, whether of something real or abstract, can drain our energies and paralyse us in situations where we need to be resourceful. The Fast Phobia Cure pattern of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) can free us of fears and phobias in just a few minutes. It is a simple process that can be used by oneself or administered for others by a practitioner.

3. FAST PHOBIA CURE
• Speed is of essence in this technique.
• Multiple sub-modalities can be used.

4. STEPS FOR FAST PHOBIA CURE
1. Double disassociate (watch yourself watching yourself something (movie,
activity, etc.)
2. Pace, lead and bring their association to an ‘end scene’ – a nice memory
much after the incident causing the phobia: a safe resource space to
anchor.
3. Also get a ‘start scene’ – a nice memory before the incident causing the
phobia.
4. Play in reverse from end scene to start scene very quickly – do it many
times (at least 20-25 times).

5. Ask for a sign to indicate every time they have played in reverse.
6. Then, ask them to continue to play in reverse quickly. While doing so ask
them to black or white out the scenes they do not like (change sub-modalities
– reduce to a dot, throw away, etc.) Do this several times.
7. Continue doing this and add something funny – like a funny sound, a joke,
etc. – any funny auditory input. Combine funny sound in reverse along with
the movie in reverse, very quickly. Repeat several times.
8. Keep checking till they do not see anything bothering them any more.

9. Get the person to associate – step into one’s position. Repeat reverse movie
and sound. Black or white out in case something else comes up. Repeat
several times. Pace to calibrate. Play it really quickly forward o see if there is
anything they do not like.
10. Future pace: Ask them to see themselves in the future – lead through
description. Repeat the activity several times in the future frequently. First
disassociated, then associated.
11. If possible, test phobia immediately.
