Completing field tests that demonstrate that geologic storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) can be conducted safely and commercially is one step towards developing robust strategies for mitigating large point source CO2 emissions. The Midwest Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership Program (MRCSP) large volume CO2 injection test is providing data for improving capacity estimates and demonstrating storage capacity within a regionally significant resource. MRCSP is also evaluating CO2 storage potential in Ohio and other areas of the Midwest and the East Coast through regional mapping and exploratory site characterization. Lessons learned from pressure data analysis, modeling, monitoring technologies assessment, accounting, regional mapping and exploration enable technology advancements needed to help carbon capture and storage reach a commercial stage. This webinar presented an update of the progress made to date and key findings from the MRCSP large volume CO2 injection test and regional exploration work. Presentation given to the closing seminar of the project on 5.Feb.2024 in Jakarta. Material savings and low-carbon construction materials can lead to substantial reduction of #GHG emissions. "The Golden Age of Geospatial Data Science and Engineering" presented as the inital lecture in the Geospatial Data Science Distinguished Speaker Series at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Series organized and presented by Professor Shaowen Wang, Head of the Geography and Geographic Information Science Department. "Data Science is in a golden age. The mathematical foundations of Data Science, known for many years, are now seeing broad applicability due to engineering advances in cloud and big data computing and due to the explosive availability of data about nearly every aspect of human activity coming from mobile devices, remote sensing and the Internet of Things. Nearly all of this data has components of location and time leading to stunning advances in geospatial data science. Development of intelligent systems using knowledge models leading to insights and understanding have the potential to significantly transform geospatial data sciences. To achieve the fullest extent of their potential, these innovations require establishment of open consensus standards. This talk will review recent developments in innovations, standards, and applications of geospatial data science and engineering."

The world's best climate scientists are busy churning out computed projections of our planet's future atmosphere and ocean. However, major barriers exist to publishing geospatiotemporal climate data in an open and transparent manner. This is primarily due to the sheer volume of information that these data represent. A handful of variables for a handful of model realizations by dozens of models for scores of scenarios over centuries of time on tens to hundreds of thousands of grid points create big data. Secondary challenges include the novelty of high-resolution climate data and the complexity and sometimes enigmatic nature of climate data interpretation. Finally, scientific teams often lack either the background, the resources, or the mandate required to facilitate strategic data sharing, aside from dropping their output files onto an FTP site. In the spirit of open data and open science, the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC), a regional climate services provider in British Columbia, Canada, has been making a concerted effort to use geospatial FOSS in order to expand the availability, comprehensibility and transparency of big climate data sets from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) experiment. This presentation will describe some of the technical challenges to serving large geospatiotemporal climate data sets over the web, including some of the nuances of climate data. Additionally, I will explain the requirements of the geospatial climate community, and outline the FOSS solutions that we have employed to serve big climate data sets over the web.
