GAME STORY SUMMARRY
Alexander the grape was the smallest in his family bunch, but he had more courage and wit than most
in the vineyard. When his family is harvested and brought to a grocery store across town, things don't
seem too bad at first. Then, when he's separated from his grape vine, he discovers a sinister plot
masterminded by the genetically modified organisms and their plan to take over the grocery store. The
other fruits and vegetables have come together in resistance in a multi-department-scale war with the
GMOs. He finds out that his family has been taken by the GMOs to be the subject of “food
beautification” experiments, and Alex is the only one who can save them and escape the evil clutches
of the GMOs!
GAME FLOW
Grape Escape is a sidescroller platformer in which Alexander the Grape finds himself in the middle of a
battle between GMO malevolent food and organic food resistance, and to save his siblings, that were
taken captive of the GMO, Alex will need to make his way through the many islands that the grocery
store is composed with, facing the great leaders of the GMO revolution and the many dangers of the
battlefield.
GAMEPLAY
You will play as Alex to fight your way through the grocery store and save your family. This game is a
side-scrolling platformer, and each level will take place in a different aisle or department. Alex will wield
a seed gun to battle the rotten food minions of the GMOs through each department.
The game develops linearly in 10 story-oriented levels, describing the journey of our hero to save his
family. During the gameplay, the player will face different evils and win new allies as Alex pursuits his
family captors through a maze that will take him into unique environments of the grocery store taken by
warfare.
In each end of level, the player will find one of his siblings, yet sometimes they will be hostages of
stronger opponents that the player will need to face in order to release his brothers.
Some levels will have different environmental features, the Frozen Food Isle will have a slippery ground
to deal with, The Waste will be full of ghosts of the never eaten food and every level will present a
different segment of the grocery store.
GAME EXPERIENCE
In a chaotic setting where vegetables and fruits comes to live, the game seeks the kind of creepy funny
atmosphere. The script and cutscenes will be full of language puns and humorous storylines. The
anthropomorphic character, enemies and allies and the semi-living scenario will bring a sick but comical
experience to all people playing.

GAMEPLAY MECHANICS
COLLECTIBLES
Acai Tokens - Will be the common token spread through the levels. Collecting this token
is beneficial but not mandatory, because when you collect 100x of them in a level, you
automatically gain an extra willpower token.
Also, to consume some power ups, it is required certain amount of acai tokens to be burned in order to use
the power without suffering damage.
Extra Willpower token - +1 to total Willpower
Extra juice token - recovers +1 HP lost (when collect X number of it, you can take a GMO
mutagen and get a permanent +1 HP)
POWER UPS AND GMO MUTAGENS
The character can have one active power up at the time, and other stored. Power ups are lost once
character dies.
Energy Juice - The simplest of the power ups, consist on a juice formula that will
replenish Alex health to its limit.
GMO mutagens
Those mutagens are one of the sources of power of the GMO food, but as a grape, Alex can
use it carefully without being transformed in a monster, and yet benefit of special powers.
(If collected without the protection of the acai berry, it poisons you and you lose 2 HP)
Constitution Mutagen - Protection to certain kind of damage or environment condition.
Strenght Mutagen - Grows bigger, can achieve higher distances and cause more destruction on
particularities of the environment.
Agility Mutagen - Gets faster and adds double jump, or wall jump, also air dash on enemies.
Ranged Mutagen - Doubles velocity of the weapon and speed of the character.

ENEMIES
GMOS
The GMOs are the masterminds of the plot to take over the grocery store. They appear as unrealistically
beautiful and perfect, to the point of being obvious and horrifying in their beauty. They will act as major
bosses of each level.
The common enemies found throughout the levels are rotten food items mutated and controlled by the
GMOs. They will have different mechanics depending on the types. Some will be fast, some will be
flying, etc.
TOMATOS
Evil Tomato - 3HP
- - jumping on them causes 3 damage
- shooting causes 1 damage
Flying Tomatillo - 6HP
If loses 1HP or more loses its wings (in a way that if you shot up, staying too
much time under it and it will fall over you)
- jumping on them causes 3 damage

BOSS
Durian - No HP
Durian can’t lose life by any of Alex’s powers, his
life loss is conditioned.
- To drop Durian’s HP you need to drop the flying
tomatillo over him
- To defeat him, you need to hit 3 tomatillos on him

When it falls over a surface he start moving in the direction it was pointed when it was knocked down,
until hits a wall and then turns (repeating the behavior if hit another one), or until falls in a pit and dies
Possible behaviors (Tomatillos)
(Boss) Durian, King of fruits - huge enemy (9x9)
- Touching him causes damage as his body is covered by thorns;
- Projectiles won’t cause him damage;
- To kill him you need to drop flying tomatoes over him, three times.
+ A constant line of flying tomatoes will be flying over the battlefield
+ When they are hit it takes some seconds for it to fall (my guess 2 secs)
+ If you miss hitting the boss, the tomato will be on the battlefield until you shot them again, so
kill them need to be strategically thinking, or you will fill your arena of enemies
- Moves by using his arms to perform small jumps in the player’s direction;
+ 4x4 arch
- Also has a longer jump intended to crunch the avatar
+ When he comes to a determined range he triggers it
+ This jump will make him fall on the area the avatar was when he triggers the animation
+ After the jump he will not move for 1 sec, so there is time for the tomato hit him definitely
+ If he gets hit, triggers the gas attack
+ avatar can, and probably must run underneath the boss to avoid being crushed
Brighter part - camera position in relation to the avatar
- When hit by a cherry tomato Durian gets angry and exhales a poisonous gas from under his arms that
will slowly go into the player’s direction

+ If the gas touches the player the player gets hurt
+ if the player avoids the gas for some time is will eventually fade away (- 3 secs my guess)
- From time to time Durian will shot a wave of thorns that the character will have to dodge jumping or
ducking
After being defeated Durian crashes to the ground and explodes

Name: Junk Food and Snacks lower grounds
TOD: Day
Story: Alex finds his way to the junk food lower grounds, as he tracks down one of his missing siblings.
He will need act fast to avoid the dangers of this sugary marsh and the soldiers of the enemy that are
everywhere. Finally Alexander will face Durian, King of fruits again.
Progression: Player will make use of his basic movement, puzzle solving techniques and combat moves;
Est. play time: 3 min level + 1 min boss battle
Color Map: ?
Enemies: Cherry Tomato; Tomatillo; Durian fruit (Boss).
Mechanics:

UNIMPLEMENTED LEVELS
Graveyard level
 Graveyard atmosphere
 Grape will enter the level and will have to defeat a tomato ghost coming towards him
 From here the grape will be running, and jump over a soda pool
 After the soda the grape will collect a juice box to have full health
 Keep going and the grape will come across two tomatoes ghost
 A zombie tomato will the come out of the ground
 There will be some ghost that hover and attack while others will fly towards the grape very
fast. Grape will have to duck for these circumstances
 Keep going and there will be cookie platforms the grape can hop on to avoid more zombies.
 Keep running to collect coins and a power mutagen
 Once the grape gets the mutagen he will not be damaged by the zombie tomato but the ghost
will still be able to harm the grape if not quick enough to jump or duck.
 There will be ghost versions of the disguised cherry tomatoes that the grape must jump on to
defeat them
 A ghost will be carrying the zombie tomato and will try to drop it on the grape.
 There could be a cross between the ghost and zombie food
 A zombie tomato could pop out of the ground like in a graveyard. The grape will be surprised
by the zombie tomato and have to defeat it
 There could be a section where there is open graves that the grape must jump over and not
fall in the tombstones could be platforms that the grape can jump onto and not be harmed by
enemies.
 Tombstones can be made out of cheese
 There could be zombies that appear behind tombstones the grape has to be careful
 there can be ghost tomatoes that appear anywhere and harm the grape. For example, the grape
can be running and all of a sudden the ghost of a tomato will appear in front of him, grape
must react quickly to fight.
 There could be a section of breakable chocolate wafers the grape must shoot to get away from
a ghost
 The ghost could melee attack the grape as well
 There could be a section where the ghost pick up the grape and are going to take him high up
and then drop him, the grape can escape and jump to a new platform
 The new platform would be even worse ghost. For example different color ghost, like red for
evil
 To defeat the red ghost the grape must shot it
Dairy level
 The grape will begin the level by having 3x power
 Will begin in the land of cheese, and work its way to the milk section to complete the level.
 Right away the grape will have to roll or jump over flying cheese slices as they can damage
the gape if he is hit. 1 point will be taken off his life If hit.
 If the grape makes it past the flying cheese slices, he will encounter a minion cherry tomato
in which is easy to defeat. Here we could have cubes of cheese instead of marshmallows’ to
bounce off and give the grape more power to land on the cherry tomato.
 Keep going and the grape could encounter spinning cheese strings that stop every couple
seconds. The cheese string ‘strings’ could be damaging if they hit the grape. Better to time it
and run through the cheese strings when they stop.
 There could be some power up collectable tokens on the other side of the cheese strings that
the grape can collect.
 A zombie tomato will be coming towards the grape. We can use weapon ammo to defeat the
tomato or perform a melee attack on it.
 After defeating the tomato we enter into the land of yogurt, where there could be a river of
yogurt, which they grape must make it over or he will drown in it.
 Once completely into the land of yogurt, every marshmallow type platform or any box the
grape stands on can be covered in yogurt, the grape will start to slip off and encounter the
tomatillos if the player does not move quick.
 A GMO mutagen could be disguised as a juice box, but could be filled with sour milk. The
juice box would be a different color, and it would damage the grape. It could be floating in
the air or on the ground.
 Tomatillo minions can enter this level and be coming towards the grape, as it makes its way
through the section.
 At this point the grape would have lots of tokens collected and power ups
 We could have the grape have super strength or agility by using one of the power ups to
defeat the tomatillo.
 The gun would be used to defeat the tomatillo or jumping on it.
 There could be marshmallow, trampolines that allow the grape to escape from the tomatillo
for a limited time. But move quick or the grape will get caught.
 Once we complete the land of dairy, we move onto the next level of the game.
Dry foods and sauces
 grape will start with 3 points again
 there will be coins at the beginning that the grape can collect
 from there the cherry tomatoes will come into play. when the grape attacks the tomatoes they
turn into a tomato sauce and are no longer harmful
 have to watch out for rolling ravioli and have to jump over the barrier of dry spaghetti that
will harm you if you land on it. (Its like spikes)
 there will be hot sauce bottles shooting out and the grape has to watch out because the sauce
could burn and harm him.
 The flat noodles used in lesaungia could be floating platforms for the grape to jump on and
escape the cherry tomatoes.
 From here we will see sauce bottles rolling down the platform in which the grape must avoid
 Cross a river of pasta sauce that is very thick, and if the grape falls in it, it will drown him.
 Nuts could be rolling down the path of destruction towards the grape, must watch out for
them.
 Rice can cause the grape to slip, they could be like little pebbles on the floor
 Going further into the pasta level we will come across the disguised cherry tomato. The grape
must jump on objects to avoid the tomatos or move very quickly on the ground so it does not
get hit.
 Keep going and battle 2 more cherry tomato’s and then end the level
Breakfast
 we could have a guillotine type system at the beginning of the level. Were its bacon and it’s
going up and down. The grape must time it perfectly to make it under and through the bacon
guillotine before it comes down on the grape. If the bacon hits the grape, it will take away
life.
 We could have breakfast cereal that is chocolate pebbles bouncing in a path of destruction
towards the grape. The grape must jump over or time it correctly to run under the pebbles
while they are bouncing in the air.
 Sausage rolls could be the game version of log rolls in real life. The sausage rolls could be
spinning overtop of hot coffee and the grape has to run over them without being taking into
the hot coffee.
 Like the jello part we have in the junk food isle, we could have a bowl of breakfast cereal that
the grape has to jump into to swim and get coins at the bottom of the bowl.
 The grape could use cubed hash browns as a way to avoid enemies for a period of time. They
would be boxes that the grape can stand on to jump over enemy or on a enemy.
 Maple syrup could be spilling from a container and if it hits the grape, then he is stuck in the
same spot for a couple seconds. Making him more vulnerable to enemy attacks.
 Toaster strudels could be the barrier that is easy to break through if needed.
 Pop tarts could be used for floating platforms that the grape can jump on to avoid enemies
Cleaning supplies
 sponges could be like trampolines for this level, the grape can jump off them to get more air
and avoid enemies at greater costs
 Windex could be used as a power up in this level. Where if the grape gets enough point’s
Windex will cover the screen and when it returns to normal, the enemies will be gone for a
short period of time. Its like the level is wiped clean.
 Comet could be falling from the sky at a certain level, almost like snow. If it hits the grape it
will damage him, the grape must out run the comet section
 There could be pools or rivers of bleach that the grape must jump over and avoid or it will
damage him.
 Soap can be spilt on the ground and if the grape runs over it, it will cause the grape to slide
quickly through a small section of the game wiping out enemies.
 Soap pods could be used as platforms to get to higher parts in the level, the grape must jump
on them.
 Clorox disinfecting wipes could be used as a breakable barrier in this level.
 There could be a section where a mop comes swooshing through, the grape must dodge it to
make it out safe.
 There could be spray bottles used in the level that every couple seconds let out a harmful
chemical. The grape must time so that he runs past the bottle when it’s not spraying.
Frozen
 it could be snowing in the freezer to make it feel like winter
 frozen mini pizzas could be the platforms that the grape has to jump on to move higher up in
the level,
 balls of ice cream could be flying towards the grape. It would be like snow balls, but ice
cream instead. If the grape is hit, it take a point off the life, must dodge the ice cream ball
 French fries can be the platforms floating in mid air that the grape can jump on to avoid
enemies for a little period of time.
 Curly fries could be spinning obstacles the grape has to get around or it will damage health
 Watch out for frozen vegetables, if they touch the grape, it will freeze him for a short period
of time and enemies can come get him.
 Frozen burger paddies could be like platforms that carry the grape to another level. If the
grape gets on one it will raise in the air and take him higher
 Boxes of frozen food will be shrunk and used as ground platforms that will help the grape
avoid enemies by jumping on them
 There could be a section like the jello, where the grape has to dig through a bucket of ice
cream to get to the coins
 Watch out for frozen food that is shaking. If there is frozen food shaking it means the ice is
about to break and a frozen tomato will pop out and harm the grape. If the grape goes near
shaking ice that’s an enemy inside, move quickly.
 Watch out for icicles falling from the roof, the grape will see them in the screen, but must
dodge them or will be injured
 Watch out for icy covered platforms, if a platform has ice on it do not jump on it or the grape
will shoot off it and be harmed
 Ice cream sandwich that opens and closes, like the flower in Mario, the grape must time it for
when the sand which is closed to jump over it.
Produce
 The level will start in the fruit section of the produce department.
 Alexander will start with apples rolling towards him, which he must jump over in order to not
be damaged by them.
 After getting past the apples Alex will keep running and collecting coins
 Then come across a Tomatillo enemy who Alex must defeat
 After defeating the Tomatillo, keep running and strawberries will be falling from the sky like
spikes
 The strawberries falling from the sky will damage Alex if he is hit, he must time it correctly
to not be hit or run really fast through this section.
 The strawberries will hit the ground and stick into it, Alex can then use them to jump on top
of.
 Melon slices can be used as floating platforms in this section of the level, where Alex can
jump on them to avoid enemies, damaging objects or collect coins/power ups.
 After the strawberries there will be two Tomatillos that Alex must battle, there will be a gap
between the two enemies so Alex has time to plan his attack.
 There will be Banana peels on the ground which will be spinning around in circles, Alex must
time it to jump over the peels or else they will cause him to wipe out and be damaged.
 Juice tokens will be in the level as well to help restore Alex’s health.
 Black berries will be placed on the ground, if they start to shake when Alex is around them it
means they will explode, like a bomb. Alex must make sure to get clear of the area, all the
little pieces of the black berry will go flying and Can be damaging.
 Pineapple cubes can be used as box type platforms that Alex stands on to avoid or air attack
Tomatillos
 Alex must battle 3 Tomatillos at the end of the fruit section to move onto the next produce
area.
 There will be a moving melon slice platform that will lift Alex up to the next section in
produce.
 The next produce section will be vegetables.
 Right as this section starts Alex must watch out for the spraying water that is used to keep
vegetables fresh. This water has a negative affect on fruit and will actually harm Alex to a
great extent, almost like fire does in other video games.
 Once making it through the water section Alex will come across Tomatillos, there will be
only one that he has to battle.
 After battling him, there will be strength mutagen that Alex can collect to help.
 Lettuce will be used as floating platforms in this section where Alex can stand on.
 Alex will keep running and come across carrots that are pooping out of the ground every few
seconds in a row of 4. There will be carrot-space-carrot-space and so forth. Alex must wait
for each carrot to go back in the ground before proceeding the carrots are like spikes that
come out of the ground.
 After making it past the carrots there will be more power ups that Alex can collect.
 A Tomatillo will be on a floating piece of lettuce that has a juice token on it, Alex must jump
up to the floating lettuce, defeat the Tomatillo and collect health.
 Once back on the ground Alex will keep running and come across, peppers that will be
opening and closing, like the flower from Mario.
 Make it past these obstacles by timing it.
 Mushrooms will be used as ground platforms that Alex can jump on to avoid enemies.
 Alex must make his way through the forest of asparagus, which is slowly falling down, Alex
must watch for falling asparagus and move quickly through the forest.
 At the end will be 3 more tomatillos that Alex must battle before moving onto the next level.
Meat
 The level will start with Alex having to dodge meatballs that are rolling towards him
 Alex has to run and jump over them in order to not be damaged, there will be space between
the meatballs for Alex to land and then get more speed up to jump over the next one.
 After the meatballs Alex will have to defeat two Tomatillos who are guarding a power up
mutagen.
 After defeating the enemies and retrieving the mutagen Alex will keep running collecting
coins.
 Sausages will be used as platforms in this level that Alex can jump on to avoid enemies
 After collecting the coins Alex will have to watch out for flying disks of salami coming
toward him. He will have to jump over them as they come in the direction.
 From there Alex will keep running and come across a Tomatillo holding a juice token.
 Alex has to defeat the enemy in order to retrieve the health.
 From there Alex will have to jump over the pit of ground up hamburger, if he falls in the pit,
he will die, its like quicksand.
 After the quicksand hamburger Alex will keep running and come across, Steak T-bones that
will be going up and down. Alex has to time it so that he runs under the T-bones when they
are up in the air and he has to move quickly. There will be coins to collect at this point as
well.
 After the T-bones Alex will find himself up against 2 Tomatillos that are right back to back,
Alex can use a sausage platform floating above them to defeat escape from them or, battle
them on the ground.
 Out of this battle comes a strength mutagen that Alex can collect.
 Keep going and Hamburger patties will be rolling towards Alex
 Alex must jump on a floating platform and then over the Hamburger patties in order to not be
damaged. The patties are too big to jump over from the ground.
 Keep going and there will be a steak that is going up and down, it is laying sideways meaning
that is used for squishing objects. Alex must not get squished so he has to run past the steak
when it’s in the air.
 After the steak there will be one Tomatillos who is walking back and fourth, Alex must attack
when the enemy is not looking.
 Keep going after this and there will be one more pool of raw hamburger but with floating
sausage platforms over it.
 There will be power ups and coins on the platform, Alex must be careful not to fall in but
needs to collect these objects.
 Alex now has to watch out for flying slices of ham that can rap around Alex and smoother
him.
 Alex must outrun the flying ham eventually it will leave him alone.
 After this section there will be two more Tomatillos that Alex must battle before moving onto
the next level.

OPENING #1: (Dialogue, cinematic)
The game starts in the dark. Through dialogue, it is revealed that the player character is
Alexander, that he is with his family and that they have been brought from the vineyard to
the land of the Great Grocer, that they are in a travel crate, and that the sounds from
outside the crate are unusual and unexpected.
Joan: Alexander? Alexander! Alexander the Grape, wake up! Something is happening
outside!
Alexander: W-what?
Martin: We’ve arrived at the land of the Great Grocer, but I don’t think things are what
they’re supposed to be.
Anne: It sounds scary outside!
Florence: I’m scared!
William: Me too!
Albert: What if something’s coming for us?
Martin: Now, now, calm down. Nothing’s coming for us.
Alexander: Has anyone checked outside?
Albert: I don’t want to go outside!
Joan: No one’s making you go outside, you weeny. Don’t worry.
Alexander: I’ll go check outside. Maybe I can figure out what’s going on.
Martin: No, Alexander. We’ve got to stay together.
Florence: It’s scary outside, Martin! I’m scared!
Martin: It’ll be okay, Florence. (beat) Alexander? Alexander!
Alexander exits the travel crate and stands outside. We can still hear the sounds of
fighting, but don’t see any of it yet.
Martin: Alexander, you get back in here right now!
Joan: If something jumps you, punch it in the nose for me!
Alexander: I can’t really see much. I’m just going to—
Alexander moves closer to the edge of the table to get a better look. There is a rumbling
and the table shakes. Alexander loses his balance and falls.
Joan &
Martin: Alexander!
Alexander falls to the floor. Down here it’s dirty, ruined, and filled with the debris of
war. Alexander moves forward, trying to find a way back up to the tabletop and his
family. He hasn’t gone far when he notices a couple olive corpses, one still holding a
plastic olive sword as a weapon in its hand. He’s horrified. He moves on only to have a
zombie vegetable block his way. Alexander tries to get past, and the zombie strikes him.
He retreats and the zombie continues to approach. The zombie lunges at him, and
Alexander vaults over the zombie’s head and to safety. The zombie turns and tries to
reach Alexander, but is unable.
Alexander: What in the name of the Great Grocer?
Alexander turns and climbs his way back to the table top. When he reaches the top, he is
horrified to see Durian and Butternut dragging the travel crate away. Alexander’s family
is trapped inside.
Alexander: Joan! Martin!
The Grapey
Bunch: Alexander!
Catherine: Help us!
Alexander: You leave them alone!
Durian: What’s this? A little wineball escaped?
Alexander: Let. Them. Go!
Butternut lets go of the rope and moves to release the grapes.
Durian: Don’t listen to him,
Butternut: Oh, right. Plum said not to listen to the enemy. (To Alexander) You are the
enemy, right?
Durian: Of course he’s the enemy! Does he look like a GMO to you?
Butternut: Well, they say not to judge a fruit by it’s--
Durian: Just get outta here!
Butternut begins to haul the crate away.
Durian: (cracking his knuckles) I’m gonna make grape juice out of you, boy. Try not to wine too much,
heh heh heh...
Butternut begins to haul the crate away, and Alexander tries to stop him. Durian gets in
the way. Durian and Alexander fight, but Alexander is too weak to defeat him. He is
thrown to the ground, and Durian prepares to make the final blow. It looks like the end.
But at the last moment, bullets from a seed gun cause an <object> to fall on Durian.
Wounded Durian retreats, and we see the first glimpse of Alexander’s rescuer. It is a
pear.
Peach: Seems I got here just in time. You alright, kid?
Alexander: I… I think so. (beat) My family. I have to save them!
Alexander tries to get past Peach and follow after Durian. Peach stops him.
Peach: Whoa, whoa, whoa. You’re going to get yourself killed running around like that.
This is a battlefield, or haven’t you noticed?
Alexander: It doesn’t matter. I have to save them!
Peach: Heh. I like you, kid. Here. Take one of these. It’s a Seed-O-Matic 4000. Should
keep you safe. Now, I can’t hang around and babysit you, but you find your way to the headquarters of
the Organic Alliance, and you’ll learn everything you need to know about this war and how to save your
family. Keep your chin up, kid. I’m rootin’ for you.
Peach turns to leave.
Alexander: Wait! Who are you?
Peach: The name’s Peach. Peach the Pear, of the Organic Alliance. (beat) Welcome to
the land of the Great Grocer, kid.
Peach leaves, and Alexander turns to see the war torn land of what should have been an
otherwise idyllic grocery lane.

  • 3. GAME STORY SUMMARRY Alexander the grape was the smallest in his family bunch, but he had more courage and wit than most in the vineyard. When his family is harvested and brought to a grocery store across town, things don't seem too bad at first. Then, when he's separated from his grape vine, he discovers a sinister plot masterminded by the genetically modified organisms and their plan to take over the grocery store. The other fruits and vegetables have come together in resistance in a multi-department-scale war with the GMOs. He finds out that his family has been taken by the GMOs to be the subject of “food beautification” experiments, and Alex is the only one who can save them and escape the evil clutches of the GMOs! GAME FLOW Grape Escape is a sidescroller platformer in which Alexander the Grape finds himself in the middle of a battle between GMO malevolent food and organic food resistance, and to save his siblings, that were taken captive of the GMO, Alex will need to make his way through the many islands that the grocery store is composed with, facing the great leaders of the GMO revolution and the many dangers of the battlefield.
  • 4. GAMEPLAY You will play as Alex to fight your way through the grocery store and save your family. This game is a side-scrolling platformer, and each level will take place in a different aisle or department. Alex will wield a seed gun to battle the rotten food minions of the GMOs through each department. The game develops linearly in 10 story-oriented levels, describing the journey of our hero to save his family. During the gameplay, the player will face different evils and win new allies as Alex pursuits his family captors through a maze that will take him into unique environments of the grocery store taken by warfare. In each end of level, the player will find one of his siblings, yet sometimes they will be hostages of stronger opponents that the player will need to face in order to release his brothers. Some levels will have different environmental features, the Frozen Food Isle will have a slippery ground to deal with, The Waste will be full of ghosts of the never eaten food and every level will present a different segment of the grocery store. GAME EXPERIENCE In a chaotic setting where vegetables and fruits comes to live, the game seeks the kind of creepy funny atmosphere. The script and cutscenes will be full of language puns and humorous storylines. The anthropomorphic character, enemies and allies and the semi-living scenario will bring a sick but comical experience to all people playing.

CHARACTER ALEX (3x3 squares) 2HP (juice points) Can take initially 1 hit before dying (Everything will cause the same amount of damage for now, to focus on evading every hazard) (If more is implemented, some power ups permanently upgrades his life in one point) Willpower (life) - player starts the game with 3x willpower - everytime he loses a level he also loses 1 life - if player loses all willpower the game is over - player can gain more willpower with collectibles - player can gain more willpower with power ups Juice points (health points) visually represented by the dehydration of the character up to a raisin form - hits tend to take 1 point of his life - some obstacles are 1 hit K.O. (ex. hot chocolate pit, crushing ceiling) - if he goes below zero in life points, he fails the level - special power ups can give permanently one extra life point Character Moves - run basic movimentation allows jump allows duck allows ranged - jump air maneuvers allows move allows duck (special condition) allows jump? - duck puzzle solver move, crawl under small spaces allows move allows jump allows ranged - seed gun gun fires, ranged, ammo unlimited, susceptible to power up transformations

  • 7. GAMEPLAY MECHANICS COLLECTIBLES Acai Tokens - Will be the common token spread through the levels. Collecting this token is beneficial but not mandatory, because when you collect 100x of them in a level, you automatically gain an extra willpower token. Also, to consume some power ups, it is required certain amount of acai tokens to be burned in order to use the power without suffering damage. Extra Willpower token - +1 to total Willpower Extra juice token - recovers +1 HP lost (when collect X number of it, you can take a GMO mutagen and get a permanent +1 HP) POWER UPS AND GMO MUTAGENS The character can have one active power up at the time, and other stored. Power ups are lost once character dies. Energy Juice - The simplest of the power ups, consist on a juice formula that will replenish Alex health to its limit. GMO mutagens Those mutagens are one of the sources of power of the GMO food, but as a grape, Alex can use it carefully without being transformed in a monster, and yet benefit of special powers. (If collected without the protection of the acai berry, it poisons you and you lose 2 HP) Constitution Mutagen - Protection to certain kind of damage or environment condition. Strenght Mutagen - Grows bigger, can achieve higher distances and cause more destruction on particularities of the environment. Agility Mutagen - Gets faster and adds double jump, or wall jump, also air dash on enemies. Ranged Mutagen - Doubles velocity of the weapon and speed of the character. (Level hazards and mechanics table – to be done -)
  • 8. ENEMIES GMOS The GMOs are the masterminds of the plot to take over the grocery store. They appear as unrealistically beautiful and perfect, to the point of being obvious and horrifying in their beauty. They will act as major bosses of each level. The common enemies found throughout the levels are rotten food items mutated and controlled by the GMOs. They will have different mechanics depending on the types. Some will be fast, some will be flying, etc. TOMATOS Evil Tomato - 3HP - - jumping on them causes 3 damage - shooting causes 1 damage Flying Tomatillo - 6HP If loses 1HP or more loses its wings (in a way that if you shot up, staying too much time under it and it will fall over you) - jumping on them causes 3 damage - shooting causes 1 damage BOSS Durian - No HP Durian can’t lose life by any of Alex’s powers, his life loss is conditioned. - To drop Durian’s HP you need to drop the flying tomatillo over him - To defeat him, you need to hit 3 tomatillos on him

(Points needs to be placed in the level as invisible collision blocks) Flying Tomatillo - Medium enemy (3x3) (In air) 0.3 speed of the character in air Flies from one point to another, and when describing the horizontal displacement (1) it alternately increases and decreases in 1 its modular vertical position each second When it is hit, it stops its displacement and stays in air 2 seconds before falling When it falls in a pit it dies (On ground) When it falls over a surface he start moving in the direction it was pointed when it was knocked down, until hits a wall and then turns (repeating the behavior if hit another one), or until falls in a pit and dies Possible behaviors (Tomatillos)

(Boss) Durian, King of fruits - huge enemy (9x9) - Touching him causes damage as his body is covered by thorns; - Projectiles won’t cause him damage; - To kill him you need to drop flying tomatoes over him, three times. + A constant line of flying tomatoes will be flying over the battlefield + When they are hit it takes some seconds for it to fall (my guess 2 secs) + If you miss hitting the boss, the tomato will be on the battlefield until you shot them again, so kill them need to be strategically thinking, or you will fill your arena of enemies - Moves by using his arms to perform small jumps in the player’s direction; + 4x4 arch - Also has a longer jump intended to crunch the avatar + When he comes to a determined range he triggers it + This jump will make him fall on the area the avatar was when he triggers the animation + After the jump he will not move for 1 sec, so there is time for the tomato hit him definitely + If he gets hit, triggers the gas attack + avatar can, and probably must run underneath the boss to avoid being crushed Brighter part - camera position in relation to the avatar

  • 14. Story: Alex finds his way to the junk food lower grounds, as he tracks down one of his missing siblings. He will need act fast to avoid the dangers of this sugary marsh and the soldiers of the enemy that are everywhere. Finally Alexander will face Durian, King of fruits again. Progression: Player will make use of his basic movement, puzzle solving techniques and combat moves; Est. play time: 3 min level + 1 min boss battle Color Map: ? Enemies: Cherry Tomato; Tomatillo; Durian fruit (Boss). Mechanics: Gello trampolines Pop moving platforms Breakable chocolate waffer Candy Bars or chocolate cookies for platforms (can be broken) Hazards: Fizzing soda pool and geysers UNIMPLEMENTED LEVELS Graveyard level  Graveyard atmosphere  Grape will enter the level and will have to defeat a tomato ghost coming towards him  From here the grape will be running, and jump over a soda pool  After the soda the grape will collect a juice box to have full health  Keep going and the grape will come across two tomatoes ghost  A zombie tomato will the come out of the ground  There will be some ghost that hover and attack while others will fly towards the grape very fast. Grape will have to duck for these circumstances  Keep going and there will be cookie platforms the grape can hop on to avoid more zombies.  Keep running to collect coins and a power mutagen  Once the grape gets the mutagen he will not be damaged by the zombie tomato but the ghost will still be able to harm the grape if not quick enough to jump or duck.  There will be ghost versions of the disguised cherry tomatoes that the grape must jump on to defeat them  A ghost will be carrying the zombie tomato and will try to drop it on the grape.  There could be a cross between the ghost and zombie food  A zombie tomato could pop out of the ground like in a graveyard. The grape will be surprised by the zombie tomato and have to defeat it  There could be a section where there is open graves that the grape must jump over and not fall in the tombstones could be platforms that the grape can jump onto and not be harmed by enemies.  Tombstones can be made out of cheese  There could be zombies that appear behind tombstones the grape has to be careful
  • 15.  there can be ghost tomatoes that appear anywhere and harm the grape. For example, the grape can be running and all of a sudden the ghost of a tomato will appear in front of him, grape must react quickly to fight.  There could be a section of breakable chocolate wafers the grape must shoot to get away from a ghost  The ghost could melee attack the grape as well  There could be a section where the ghost pick up the grape and are going to take him high up and then drop him, the grape can escape and jump to a new platform  The new platform would be even worse ghost. For example different color ghost, like red for evil  To defeat the red ghost the grape must shot it Dairy level  The grape will begin the level by having 3x power  Will begin in the land of cheese, and work its way to the milk section to complete the level.  Right away the grape will have to roll or jump over flying cheese slices as they can damage the gape if he is hit. 1 point will be taken off his life If hit.  If the grape makes it past the flying cheese slices, he will encounter a minion cherry tomato in which is easy to defeat. Here we could have cubes of cheese instead of marshmallows’ to bounce off and give the grape more power to land on the cherry tomato.  Keep going and the grape could encounter spinning cheese strings that stop every couple seconds. The cheese string ‘strings’ could be damaging if they hit the grape. Better to time it and run through the cheese strings when they stop.  There could be some power up collectable tokens on the other side of the cheese strings that the grape can collect.  A zombie tomato will be coming towards the grape. We can use weapon ammo to defeat the tomato or perform a melee attack on it.  After defeating the tomato we enter into the land of yogurt, where there could be a river of yogurt, which they grape must make it over or he will drown in it.  Once completely into the land of yogurt, every marshmallow type platform or any box the grape stands on can be covered in yogurt, the grape will start to slip off and encounter the tomatillos if the player does not move quick.  A GMO mutagen could be disguised as a juice box, but could be filled with sour milk. The juice box would be a different color, and it would damage the grape. It could be floating in the air or on the ground.  Tomatillo minions can enter this level and be coming towards the grape, as it makes its way through the section.  At this point the grape would have lots of tokens collected and power ups  We could have the grape have super strength or agility by using one of the power ups to defeat the tomatillo.  The gun would be used to defeat the tomatillo or jumping on it.  There could be marshmallow, trampolines that allow the grape to escape from the tomatillo for a limited time. But move quick or the grape will get caught.  Once we complete the land of dairy, we move onto the next level of the game.
  • 16. Dry foods and sauces  grape will start with 3 points again  there will be coins at the beginning that the grape can collect  from there the cherry tomatoes will come into play. when the grape attacks the tomatoes they turn into a tomato sauce and are no longer harmful  have to watch out for rolling ravioli and have to jump over the barrier of dry spaghetti that will harm you if you land on it. (Its like spikes)  there will be hot sauce bottles shooting out and the grape has to watch out because the sauce could burn and harm him.  The flat noodles used in lesaungia could be floating platforms for the grape to jump on and escape the cherry tomatoes.  From here we will see sauce bottles rolling down the platform in which the grape must avoid  Cross a river of pasta sauce that is very thick, and if the grape falls in it, it will drown him.  Nuts could be rolling down the path of destruction towards the grape, must watch out for them.  Rice can cause the grape to slip, they could be like little pebbles on the floor  Going further into the pasta level we will come across the disguised cherry tomato. The grape must jump on objects to avoid the tomatos or move very quickly on the ground so it does not get hit.  Keep going and battle 2 more cherry tomato’s and then end the level Breakfast  we could have a guillotine type system at the beginning of the level. Were its bacon and it’s going up and down. The grape must time it perfectly to make it under and through the bacon guillotine before it comes down on the grape. If the bacon hits the grape, it will take away life.  We could have breakfast cereal that is chocolate pebbles bouncing in a path of destruction towards the grape. The grape must jump over or time it correctly to run under the pebbles while they are bouncing in the air.  Sausage rolls could be the game version of log rolls in real life. The sausage rolls could be spinning overtop of hot coffee and the grape has to run over them without being taking into the hot coffee.  Like the jello part we have in the junk food isle, we could have a bowl of breakfast cereal that the grape has to jump into to swim and get coins at the bottom of the bowl.  The grape could use cubed hash browns as a way to avoid enemies for a period of time. They would be boxes that the grape can stand on to jump over enemy or on a enemy.  Maple syrup could be spilling from a container and if it hits the grape, then he is stuck in the same spot for a couple seconds. Making him more vulnerable to enemy attacks.  Toaster strudels could be the barrier that is easy to break through if needed.  Pop tarts could be used for floating platforms that the grape can jump on to avoid enemies Cleaning supplies  sponges could be like trampolines for this level, the grape can jump off them to get more air and avoid enemies at greater costs
  • 17.  Windex could be used as a power up in this level. Where if the grape gets enough point’s Windex will cover the screen and when it returns to normal, the enemies will be gone for a short period of time. Its like the level is wiped clean.  Comet could be falling from the sky at a certain level, almost like snow. If it hits the grape it will damage him, the grape must out run the comet section  There could be pools or rivers of bleach that the grape must jump over and avoid or it will damage him.  Soap can be spilt on the ground and if the grape runs over it, it will cause the grape to slide quickly through a small section of the game wiping out enemies.  Soap pods could be used as platforms to get to higher parts in the level, the grape must jump on them.  Clorox disinfecting wipes could be used as a breakable barrier in this level.  There could be a section where a mop comes swooshing through, the grape must dodge it to make it out safe.  There could be spray bottles used in the level that every couple seconds let out a harmful chemical. The grape must time so that he runs past the bottle when it’s not spraying. Frozen  it could be snowing in the freezer to make it feel like winter  frozen mini pizzas could be the platforms that the grape has to jump on to move higher up in the level,  balls of ice cream could be flying towards the grape. It would be like snow balls, but ice cream instead. If the grape is hit, it take a point off the life, must dodge the ice cream ball  French fries can be the platforms floating in mid air that the grape can jump on to avoid enemies for a little period of time.  Curly fries could be spinning obstacles the grape has to get around or it will damage health  Watch out for frozen vegetables, if they touch the grape, it will freeze him for a short period of time and enemies can come get him.  Frozen burger paddies could be like platforms that carry the grape to another level. If the grape gets on one it will raise in the air and take him higher  Boxes of frozen food will be shrunk and used as ground platforms that will help the grape avoid enemies by jumping on them  There could be a section like the jello, where the grape has to dig through a bucket of ice cream to get to the coins  Watch out for frozen food that is shaking. If there is frozen food shaking it means the ice is about to break and a frozen tomato will pop out and harm the grape. If the grape goes near shaking ice that’s an enemy inside, move quickly.  Watch out for icicles falling from the roof, the grape will see them in the screen, but must dodge them or will be injured  Watch out for icy covered platforms, if a platform has ice on it do not jump on it or the grape will shoot off it and be harmed  Ice cream sandwich that opens and closes, like the flower in Mario, the grape must time it for when the sand which is closed to jump over it.
  • 18. Produce  The level will start in the fruit section of the produce department.  Alexander will start with apples rolling towards him, which he must jump over in order to not be damaged by them.  After getting past the apples Alex will keep running and collecting coins  Then come across a Tomatillo enemy who Alex must defeat  After defeating the Tomatillo, keep running and strawberries will be falling from the sky like spikes  The strawberries falling from the sky will damage Alex if he is hit, he must time it correctly to not be hit or run really fast through this section.  The strawberries will hit the ground and stick into it, Alex can then use them to jump on top of.  Melon slices can be used as floating platforms in this section of the level, where Alex can jump on them to avoid enemies, damaging objects or collect coins/power ups.  After the strawberries there will be two Tomatillos that Alex must battle, there will be a gap between the two enemies so Alex has time to plan his attack.  There will be Banana peels on the ground which will be spinning around in circles, Alex must time it to jump over the peels or else they will cause him to wipe out and be damaged.  Juice tokens will be in the level as well to help restore Alex’s health.  Black berries will be placed on the ground, if they start to shake when Alex is around them it means they will explode, like a bomb. Alex must make sure to get clear of the area, all the little pieces of the black berry will go flying and Can be damaging.  Pineapple cubes can be used as box type platforms that Alex stands on to avoid or air attack Tomatillos  Alex must battle 3 Tomatillos at the end of the fruit section to move onto the next produce area.  There will be a moving melon slice platform that will lift Alex up to the next section in produce.  The next produce section will be vegetables.  Right as this section starts Alex must watch out for the spraying water that is used to keep vegetables fresh. This water has a negative affect on fruit and will actually harm Alex to a great extent, almost like fire does in other video games.  Once making it through the water section Alex will come across Tomatillos, there will be only one that he has to battle.  After battling him, there will be strength mutagen that Alex can collect to help.  Lettuce will be used as floating platforms in this section where Alex can stand on.  Alex will keep running and come across carrots that are pooping out of the ground every few seconds in a row of 4. There will be carrot-space-carrot-space and so forth. Alex must wait for each carrot to go back in the ground before proceeding the carrots are like spikes that come out of the ground.  After making it past the carrots there will be more power ups that Alex can collect.  A Tomatillo will be on a floating piece of lettuce that has a juice token on it, Alex must jump up to the floating lettuce, defeat the Tomatillo and collect health.  Once back on the ground Alex will keep running and come across, peppers that will be opening and closing, like the flower from Mario.  Make it past these obstacles by timing it.  Mushrooms will be used as ground platforms that Alex can jump on to avoid enemies.
  • 19.  Alex must make his way through the forest of asparagus, which is slowly falling down, Alex must watch for falling asparagus and move quickly through the forest.  At the end will be 3 more tomatillos that Alex must battle before moving onto the next level. Meat  The level will start with Alex having to dodge meatballs that are rolling towards him  Alex has to run and jump over them in order to not be damaged, there will be space between the meatballs for Alex to land and then get more speed up to jump over the next one.  After the meatballs Alex will have to defeat two Tomatillos who are guarding a power up mutagen.  After defeating the enemies and retrieving the mutagen Alex will keep running collecting coins.  Sausages will be used as platforms in this level that Alex can jump on to avoid enemies  After collecting the coins Alex will have to watch out for flying disks of salami coming toward him. He will have to jump over them as they come in the direction.  From there Alex will keep running and come across a Tomatillo holding a juice token.  Alex has to defeat the enemy in order to retrieve the health.  From there Alex will have to jump over the pit of ground up hamburger, if he falls in the pit, he will die, its like quicksand.  After the quicksand hamburger Alex will keep running and come across, Steak T-bones that will be going up and down. Alex has to time it so that he runs under the T-bones when they are up in the air and he has to move quickly. There will be coins to collect at this point as well.  After the T-bones Alex will find himself up against 2 Tomatillos that are right back to back, Alex can use a sausage platform floating above them to defeat escape from them or, battle them on the ground.  Out of this battle comes a strength mutagen that Alex can collect.  Keep going and Hamburger patties will be rolling towards Alex  Alex must jump on a floating platform and then over the Hamburger patties in order to not be damaged. The patties are too big to jump over from the ground.  Keep going and there will be a steak that is going up and down, it is laying sideways meaning that is used for squishing objects. Alex must not get squished so he has to run past the steak when it’s in the air.  After the steak there will be one Tomatillos who is walking back and fourth, Alex must attack when the enemy is not looking.  Keep going after this and there will be one more pool of raw hamburger but with floating sausage platforms over it.  There will be power ups and coins on the platform, Alex must be careful not to fall in but needs to collect these objects.  Alex now has to watch out for flying slices of ham that can rap around Alex and smoother him.  Alex must outrun the flying ham eventually it will leave him alone.  After this section there will be two more Tomatillos that Alex must battle before moving onto the next level.

Through dialogue, it is revealed that the player character is Alexander, that he is with his family and that they have been brought from the vineyard to the land of the Great Grocer, that they are in a travel crate, and that the sounds from outside the crate are unusual and unexpected. Joan: Alexander? Alexander! Alexander the Grape, wake up! Something is happening outside! Alexander: W-what?
  • 22. Martin: We’ve arrived at the land of the Great Grocer, but I don’t think things are what they’re supposed to be. Anne: It sounds scary outside! Florence: I’m scared! William: Me too! Albert: What if something’s coming for us? Martin: Now, now, calm down. Nothing’s coming for us. Alexander: Has anyone checked outside? Albert: I don’t want to go outside! Joan: No one’s making you go outside, you weeny. Don’t worry. Alexander: I’ll go check outside. Maybe I can figure out what’s going on. Martin: No, Alexander. We’ve got to stay together. Florence: It’s scary outside, Martin! I’m scared! Martin: It’ll be okay, Florence. (beat) Alexander? Alexander! Alexander exits the travel crate and stands outside. We can still hear the sounds of fighting, but don’t see any of it yet. Martin: Alexander, you get back in here right now! Joan: If something jumps you, punch it in the nose for me! Alexander: I can’t really see much. I’m just going to— Alexander moves closer to the edge of the table to get a better look. There is a rumbling and the table shakes. Alexander loses his balance and falls. Joan & Martin: Alexander! Alexander falls to the floor. Down here it’s dirty, ruined, and filled with the debris of war. Alexander moves forward, trying to find a way back up to the tabletop and his family. He hasn’t gone far when he notices a couple olive corpses, one still holding a plastic olive sword as a weapon in its hand. He’s horrified. He moves on only to have a zombie vegetable block his way. Alexander tries to get past, and the zombie strikes him.
  • 23. He retreats and the zombie continues to approach. The zombie lunges at him, and Alexander vaults over the zombie’s head and to safety. The zombie turns and tries to reach Alexander, but is unable. Alexander: What in the name of the Great Grocer? Alexander turns and climbs his way back to the table top. When he reaches the top, he is horrified to see Durian and Butternut dragging the travel crate away. Alexander’s family is trapped inside. Alexander: Joan! Martin! The Grapey Bunch: Alexander! Catherine: Help us! Alexander: You leave them alone! Durian: What’s this? A little wineball escaped? Alexander: Let. Them. Go! Butternut lets go of the rope and moves to release the grapes. Durian: Don’t listen to him, Butternut: Oh, right. Plum said not to listen to the enemy. (To Alexander) You are the enemy, right? Durian: Of course he’s the enemy! Does he look like a GMO to you? Butternut: Well, they say not to judge a fruit by it’s-- Durian: Just get outta here! Butternut begins to haul the crate away. Durian: (cracking his knuckles) I’m gonna make grape juice out of you, boy. Try not to wine too much, heh heh heh... Butternut begins to haul the crate away, and Alexander tries to stop him. Durian gets in the way. Durian and Alexander fight, but Alexander is too weak to defeat him. He is thrown to the ground, and Durian prepares to make the final blow. It looks like the end.
  • 24. But at the last moment, bullets from a seed gun cause an <object> to fall on Durian. Wounded Durian retreats, and we see the first glimpse of Alexander’s rescuer. It is a pear. Peach: Seems I got here just in time. You alright, kid? Alexander: I… I think so. (beat) My family. I have to save them! Alexander tries to get past Peach and follow after Durian. Peach stops him. Peach: Whoa, whoa, whoa. You’re going to get yourself killed running around like that. This is a battlefield, or haven’t you noticed? Alexander: It doesn’t matter. I have to save them! Peach: Heh. I like you, kid. Here. Take one of these. It’s a Seed-O-Matic 4000. Should keep you safe. Now, I can’t hang around and babysit you, but you find your way to the headquarters of the Organic Alliance, and you’ll learn everything you need to know about this war and how to save your family. Keep your chin up, kid. I’m rootin’ for you. Peach turns to leave. Alexander: Wait! Who are you? Peach: The name’s Peach. Peach the Pear, of the Organic Alliance. (beat) Welcome to the land of the Great Grocer, kid.
