This is one of three infographics illustrating approaches and findings from the Global Development Network's research program on Natural Resource Management. It focuses on three countries facing natural degradation - Mauritius, Madagascar and Morocco. This infographic depicts the study on using Natural Capital Accounts to promote sustainable land management in Madagascar. Results from the three studies indicate that natural capital accounting systems can be systematically applied to land, water and coastal ecosystems in a variety of contexts to make environment degradation observable and highlight its costs. The studies also showed that gathering this evidence was a critical first step to incentivize key stakeholders toward action by calling for restructuring tariffs and improving governance via new performance indicators for sustainable policies and practices.
