1. Tim Paterson Brown – New Zealand Football
player
Tim Paterson Brown is a professional football player who recently took early retirement.
Originally from New Zealand, Brown first played football with the team Wellington Phoenix,
who gave him a position as mid-fielder. This is the position in which Brown has been most
successful, in terms of the number of goals he has made throughout his career. Although his
junior career began in New Zealand, Brown went on to play for a number of teams in the USA
during his senior career. The two American teams for which he played were the University of
Cincinnati, and the Richmond Kickers.
His time as a professional football player in the US was quite short-lived, as in 2006 Brown
made the decision to continue his sporting career in Australia, where he was accepted by the
Newcastle Jets, an A-League football team Tim Paterson- Brown. With this team he played for
one season, after which he was offered a release from his contract by the team’s manager.
After ending his contract with the Newcastle jets, Brown then returned to his original team,
Wellington Phoenix, another A-League team. His first season with the team was not hugely
successful, as he failed to score a single goal, however the second season proved to be much
more fruitful, with Brown scoring a goal against Sydney FC, in addition to another two goals in
subsequent matches. This was the most successful period of Brown’s football career; he was
eventually elected as vice captain of the team. However in 2012, Brown attended a press
conference, during which he announced to the press that he was planning on retiring from his
career as a professional football player, once the following season came to an end this year. He
added that he intended to study for a Master’s degree in the UK, in one of two universities;
Cambridge or the London School of Economics.
