 New orders for manufactured durable goods in US during October increased $1.0 billion or 0.4 percent to $243.8 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today. This Increase, up following two consecutive monthly decreases, followed a 0.9 percent September decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.9 percent, after 0.2% growth last month. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 0.6 percent.
 The number of people applying for new unemployment benefits in US shot above 300,000 for the first time since early September, perhaps a sign the pace of hiring in the U.S. may have slowed a touch. Initial jobless claims jumped by 21,000 to 313,000 in the week ended Nov. 22, marking the highest level since the first week of September. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 291,000 to 292,000. The average of new claims over the past month rose by 6,250 to 294,000, the Labor Department said Wednesday.
COMMODITY BUZZ
 Crude oil prices stayed tentative today after falling to four year low yesterday. Theglobal equities remained mixed but a slightly upbeat undertone in the US Dollar kept thecommodity under check. Worries about the actions from OPEC oil cartel at its upcomingmeeting is offering some support for the commodity though selling pressure is expected tohold sway. The WTI Crude oil is quoting at $74.05 per barrel, down 2cents per barrel onthe day. MCX Crude oil futures are quoting at Rs 4604 per barrel, down Rs 37 per barrel or0.74% on the day.
 Copper futures held near an eight-month low struck in the previous session on Wednesday, as market players looked ahead to a flurry of key U.S. economic data due later in the session. On the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, copper for March delivery declined 1.5 cents, or 0.5% to trade at $2.963 a pound.
