 1898: Originally named Southwestern Louisiana
Industrial Institute.
 1890: construction began and Dr. Edwin
Stephen was named president.
 1901: Classes began with 100 students.
 1921: Its name was changed to University of
Southwestern Louisiana Institute.
 1960:The state approved renaming
Southwestern Louisiana Institute to the
University of Southwestern Louisiana.
 1999: The name was changed to University of
Louisiana of Lafayette.

12. Why I Want to Attend ULL
I am interested in attending ULL and
becoming a Rajun Cajun because the
academic programs are good, the campus is
nice and there are many activities. It is also
located close to home and my family
members!
