Taiwan Lantern Festival
Who would forget the most stunning and famous lantern festival in Asia. Held in the Pingxi District,
thousands of sky lanterns light over the district. For Taiwanese, the sky lanterns are a symbol to let others
know that the town was safe. The lantern contains wishes and images inside relating to the owner.
Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival
Annually held in China, this winter festival was known to be as the largest ice and snow festival in
the world. The festival simply showcases the world’s biggest ice sculptures, ranging from small creatures
to 250-feet ice monuments. At first, only Chinese participants are able to compete, but it has since become
an international festival and competition as of today.
Thaipusam
This procession that lasts for eight hours that starts at the Sri Mahamariamman Temple and ends
to the Batu Caves’ temples. Asian countries like Singapore and Malaysia where there is a significant
presence of Tamil community hosts this event. What makes it a famous festival in Asia, is that devotees
bear physical burdens (known as kavadi) such as their different body parts are pierced with skewers.

Winter Light Festival
During winter, a botanical theme park in Japan named Nabana No Sato features the most
impressive illuminations in the world. Well-known as the Winter Light Festival, the flowers’ fragrance
mingles with the cold winter along with the light shows. Tourists across the globe leaves everyone stunned
as the lights blanket the whole theme park and its waters.
Chinese New Year
Also known as the Lunar New Year, this century-old festival gains significance due to its several
myths and traditions. By tradition, the festival was a time to honor deities and ancestors. It was also known
to be as a major holiday for the Chinese along with its neighboring countries due to its large influence.
Additionally, Chinese New Year features dragon parades, fireworks, colorful streets with lanterns and
other street parties.
Panagbenga Festival
Locally translated as the Flowers Festival, is an annual event held during the month of February
at Baguio City in the Philippines. Baguio streets come alive with spectacular rhythmic dances and colorful
floral parades for a week. In addition, the main purpose of the festival was also symbol to rise up from the
1990 Luzon earthquake devastation.
