Evaluation 3
1. What Kind off media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
2. Production Company name and Logo
Our production company is named Big D Productions. As a group it took
a few attempts to finally agree on the potential names shortlisted, but
as a group felt Big D Productions was the most suitable. Due to its
catchy name and is also bold and stands out which could lead to
potential consumers remembering and therefore recommending it.
The image pictured below is our company logo it consists off a capital red
D which contains big within it in a white font. We used the colour
scheme off red as we felt red stands out as a colour. The colour red
also fits in with code and conventions off a thriller as it represents
danger and blood. However we also felt white was needed as it could
show the innocence and purity off the victims within the thriller
3. What is the purpose off a production
company?
A production company is in charge off creating
the film. Production companies vary in size with
some films requiring more than one company.
The role off these companies is to provide
actors/actresses, create scripts, distribute and
market the final products. An example off a
smaller production company is Momentum
Pictures who are based in the UK and have
produced films such as Limitless, on average
the company realises 20 films a year. An
example off one off the Production companies,
who monopolise the industry is Paramount who
have realised hit films such as Godfather and
Saving Private Ryan.
4. The role off Distributers
The film distributor can play a huge factor in a film's
success.
Distributors control the marketing and circulation of
movies in theatres and also home viewing (DVD, pay-per-
view, television rights, etc.). Ultimately the film itself is the
biggest factor in whether or not a film is successful, but
the distribution is nearly as important. Distributors decide
how much the film should be advertised (TV
commercials, internet, magazine, posters, trailers, special
promos, etc.) - this is crucial for the film because it gets
the word out there and gets people interested in it. As a
group we decided if we had to distribute the thriller it
would be through 20th century fox as they have a positive
reputation for distributing thriller films such as The day
after tomorrow and The transporter.
5. How would we Fund our
Thriller?
As we are a small A Level media group it is unlikely a big
company like paramount would offer a distribution channel
for us or to produce it so to fund it we would need to raise
capital in other ways. Examples off this would be.....
- Ask friends and family members for funds.
- Go to local small businesses for money.
- Use independent film organizations.
- Get a "sponsorship" from a company or group.
- In a last resort we could ask a financial institution for a
loan however its unlikely due to the high interest rates in
which we would be charged.
6. The purpose off titles in our
thriller A title sequence is the method in which films present their title,
key production and cast members.
Title sequences are important within films, one reason for this is
that it gives the crucial first impression off the film for the
consumer.
An example off a film with powerful title sequences is the James
Bond sequel as pictured below.
Within our thriller title sequence it shows the cast member
David Lewis and extra William Mead. It will also show Director
Adam Bates, Production Managers William Mead, David Lewis
and Jack Stevens and key editor Adam Bates in this Order, we
used black and white font as black emphasises danger, with the
white linking to our film title ‘Isolation’.
7. Similar Films in the
institution
As a group we felt Unknown was a similar thriller to ours,
One similarity within the film is that both off the main
characters wake up unsure off there location and no
recollection off what happened prior to them waking up. Also
the costumes off the main characters our extremely similar
with the smart casual look used consisting off jeans shirts
and jumpers. This use off costumes puts the audience on
edge as it is an example off everyday clothing and this leads
them to feel this storyline could happen to anyone. Also the
bland colour of white worn by the main character shows the
innocence within but is contradicted with the black which
shows a side off evil. This reflects our thriller isolation and
also the film Unknown.
