The production process
1.
2. NME is a weekly magazine, so the authors and editors are
under pressure to meet the deadline, before it needs to be
printed and published to go on sale for that week.
The editor for the magazine, Mike Williams will arrange a
meeting with the production crew to cover their own area
in time before they need to put it together. Including; Jamie
Fullerton (Features editor), reviews editor (Tom
Howard), News editor (Dan Stubbs) and new music editor
(Matt Wilkinson).
This will also include assistant and deputy editors for the
primary editors. As well as the designers and photography
team. (Tony Ennis and Kat Godlonton).
3. The next stage is the team of journalists
and photographers going out and
getting the information to fill the
magazine with.
Such as; going to interview
artists, doing the photography for the
front cover, posters and articles.
Also finding out the latest and most
successful music in that week, to create
chart lists and album reviews.
Once everyone's articles are finished
they need to be put together on the
computer software such as;
QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign.
This is the final process before it can go
on sale. The articles then look official in
the style of magazine columns.
Followed by the added photography
and colouring.
4. After it has all been edited and
officially put together, the magazine
can then go on sale for its weekly price
of £2.40.
The retailer will purchase the
magazines in large batches to sell on to
make a profit.
It is expected in the same stalls each
week, where regular buyers go to get it
off the shelf.
Most of the money will go to the NME
company from each copy that is sold.
