Do you make the shirts in long sleeve?&amp;quot; My response was: &amp;quot;Of course we make it in long sleeve.&amp;quot; Then I get in my car, drive to the contractor, and try to figure out how to make the shirts in long sleeve.   4. 앞에서 보셨듯이 현재 언더아머는 미국내 시장에서 아디다스를 제치고 스포츠 산업분야에서 2위의 자리를 뺏었습니다. 하지만 미국 스포츠산업 시장에서 얼마나 많은 Marketshare 를 가지고 있을까요 2014년 현재기준 나이키와 언더아머의 매출총액은 각각 860억달러와 150억달러입니다. 그리고 각각 나이키는 47%, 언더아머는 14%의 Marketshare를 가지고 있습니다. 실제로 나이키와 언더아머의 시가총액 차이는 나이키가 언더아머 보다 5배 가량 많습니다. 그래서 이 사진은 이렇게 되야 합니다.
  5. 그렇다면 나이키는 어떻게해서 지금의 위치에 올라가게 되었을까요 나이키는 Frist mover’s advantage를 십분 활용했습니다. 나이키는 제품을 광고하기보다 스포츠 자체를 광고했습니다. 그리하여 스포츠=나이키라는 인식을 소비자들에게 주입시켰습니다. 그리고 그 후 조던과 같은 스타마케팅을 통해 브랜드 인기를 제품으로 이전시키는 데 성공하였습니다. 이러한 메시지는 글로벌하게 퍼져나갔고 Just do it 이라는 슬로건은 나이키가 강력한 고려상품군이 될 수 있도록 만들어 주었습니다
  6. 4. 그리고 나이키는 Dynamic Comparative Advantage를 가져갔습니다. 보시는 바와 같이 미국에서 한국, 대만으로 그리고 그 후에는 중국, 태국, 베트남, 인도네시아 등으로 생산거점을 옮기며 원가절감을 실현했습니다. 이를 통해 Eclectic Paradigm의 OLI중 L, Location specific adv의 이점을 챙길 수 있었고 본원적 전략 중 Cost leadership을 가져갈 수 있었습니다. 그 외에도 나이키는 R&amp;D, 마케팅, A/S등에서 두각을 나타내며 현재의 위치에 올라가게 되었습니다.
  7. 현재 나이키는 브랜드 랭킹만 해도 16위를 달리고 있습니다 참고로 언더아머는 여기에 없습니다 그래서 찾아본 결과 언더아머는 35점을 받아 100~200위 정도에 머물러 있습니다.
  8. 그렇다면 언더아머가 미국을 넘어서 강력한 글로벌 기업이 되려면 어떻게 해야 하는지 이제부터 알아보겠습니다.
  9. 저는 언더아머가 스포츠 산업계에서 1위로 올라갈 수 있으려면 꼭 잡아야 할 세가지가 있다고 분석했습니다. 바로 신발, 축구, 여성입니다.
  10. 축구관련 산업도 현재 토트넘 핫츠퍼의 스폰서 역할을 따내며 영국 프리미어 리그의 스포츠 마케팅 시장에 진출 하였지만 아직 해외 인지도는 낮은 상태입니다. 그리고 에어조던처럼 스타마케팅을 하려고 해도 이미 진출한 나이키와 아디다스, 푸마와의 기업들의 전속계약 때문에 사실상 불가능합니다 그리하여 언더아머 스타디움 건설, 유스프로그램 조직과 같은 프로모션으로 인지도를 높이고 추후 스타플레이어를 발굴, 전속계약을 따내어 나이키의 에어조던과 같은 스토리라인을 만들어야 합니다
  11. 제가 제안 분야 중 축구산업을 넣은 이유는 현재 세계 스포츠 시장 중 축구 관련시장이 이와 같이 가장 크고
  12. 지역별로 나눈 스포츠별 연평균성장률에서도 가장 큰 비중을 차지하기 때문입니다.

  14. 저는 강남에 있는 UA직영점에 갔었습니다. 대체적으로 의류는 디자인들이 나쁘지 않았습니다. 특히나 헬스관련 의류는 정말 세련되어 보였습니다. 그래서 하나 샀습니다. 좋아요 제가 여기 제품을 팔려고 온건 아니구요 그 다음 2층으로 올라가서 신발을 봤습니다.
  15. 음.. 조금 슬펐습니다. 스포츠 브라소재로 만들어서 신었을 때 착화감이 좋았지만 나이키나 아디다스에 비해 디자인이 구매를 자극하지는 않았습니다. 디자인 면에서 변화가 필요하다고 생각했습니다.
  16. 한편 여성관련 산업으로의 진출은 언더아머에서도 중점적으로 다루고 있는 부분이지만 아직 그 결과는 이제 갓 출발하려는 단계입니다.
  17. 신발과 여성 의류 산업 이 둘 모두는 현재 언더아머의 발전에 있어서 가장 중요한 두 부분입니다. 어떻게 해야 이 두 산업에서 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있을까요
  18. 저는 언더아머와 루루레몬의 전략적 제휴를 제안합니다.
  19. 혹시 들어보셨나요? 또 다른 듣보잡이죠? 루루레몬은 요가제품을 기반으로 시작한 여성중심의 스포츠웨어 전문 브랜드입니다. 이미 루루레몬은 디자인 관련해서 31개의 특허권을 가지고 있으며 이를 지키려는 움직임에 대해서 Patent Troll이라는 별명도 얻게 되었습니다. 그리고 루루레몬도 언더아머와 같이 성장세에 있는 스포츠웨어 산업계의 다크호스입니다. 제가 생각하는 전략적 제휴는 언더아머와 루루레몬의 비지분 제휴입니다.
  20. 그 이유는 앞서 보았듯이 언더아머는 R&amp;D를 기반으로 한 기술력에 있어서 강점을 보이고 있습니다.
  21. 그리고 언더아머는 뛰어난 성장력과 매출로 자금력은 충분하지만 앞서 말한 핵심 산업군에 대한 다각화 노력은 투입자원 대비 산출량이 낮은 편입니다. 루루레몬은 요가를 비롯한 여성용품으로 시작해 프리미엄 마켓에서 두각을 나타내고 있지만 매출을 비롯한 자금력은 분산된 투자로 인해 미미한 편입니다. 그리하여 루루레몬은 부족한 R&amp;D 자금을 언더아머에서 지원받고 언더아머는 상대적으로 부족한 디자인 부분을 보완할 수 있을 것입니다.
  22. 그리고 앞서 언더아머는 언더아머라는 하나의 핵심 브랜드로 차별점을 두고 있었는데요. 이 브랜드는 남성편중된 이미지를 불러일으켜 여성관련 제품들에게는 설득력을 얻지 못하는 단점을 가지고 있습니다. 루루레몬과의 전략적 제휴를 통해 브랜드 다각화를 꾀할 수 있으며 남성 편중된 이미지에서 탈피할 수 있을 것입니다.
  23. 하지만 전략적 제휴를 함에도 아직 숙제는 있습니다. 언더아머와 루루레몬, 둘 다 이제 글로벌화가 진행되고 있는 단계로 이미 미국을 포함한 세계 시장에서 브랜드 로열티가 높은 나이키를 따라잡으려면 여러 노력이 필요합니다.
