6. Linked Data in IBM
• Interest in Linked Data technologies is increasing in IBM
• IBM Rational and Tivoli are committed to Linked Data product
implementations for data and product integration
• IBM Rational builds tools for software application development
• IBM Tivoli builds tools for systems management for IT
infrastructure
• IBM DB2 Database System version 10 added RDF support to
relational and XML
• IBM Watson uses Linked Data for data import and inferencing
• IBM Research is working on Linked Data projects
• IBM Customers are working on Linked Data projects

7. Open Services for Lifecycle
Collaboration (OSLC)
• OSLC defines a set of
specifications that enable
integration of software development
and Application Lifecycle
Management (ALM) and Product
lifecycle Management (PLM) products
and services - to make it easier
for tools to work together
• The Rational Jazz architecture (and
future Tivoli Platform
Architecture) for integrating tools
is patterned on the World Wide Web.
• Each tool is implemented as a web application
deployed on a web server.
• Interaction from clients (web or desktop) to a tool, and
between tools, is done using RESTful web interfaces
and standard network connections.
• Each tool exposes its principle lifecycle data (e.g.,
change requests, requirements) as resources,
identified by standard HTTP-based URIs.

8. Increasing Oracle Involvement in
Linked Data
• Linked Data (URIs+REST)replacing Web Services in many/most
projects and products
• Team Productivity Center uses OSLC
– We continue to be part of Change Management group and
work with OSLC
• Support for W3C Provenance in Fusion Applications
• Glassfish, OTN, etc. use Linked Data
• Use of Linked Data in several ongoing standards efforts such as
DMTF’s CIMI

9. Support of RDF and Semantic
Web in Oracle Database
• Oracle database has supported RDF and RDFS since 2005.
• SPARQL support using Oracle Jena adapter. SQL-based
SPARQL queries for seamless access to RDF/OWL data and
relational tables
• OWL2Prime supported since 2008. OWL2RL more recently
• Jena, Sesame, and Joseki based access to RDF/OWL data in
Oracle database.
• Fine grained access control (triple level).
• Semantic indexing of unstructured data.

10. Support of RDF and Semantic
Web in Oracle Database
• Oracle was a prime mover in the W3C RDB2RDF WG which
should release a Recommendation soon
– This is important as it unites the Relational Data world with the
Linked Data world
