CHEMISTRY WORKSHEET
Properties of solids, liquids, and gases

All the substances you know can be sorted into groups. One way of grouping substances is into
solids, liquids or gases.

Features of the matter:

Compressed: Something that is pressed into less volume or space

Flow: To move with unbroken continuity

Volume: The amount of space occupied by a

Write in which state these different matters are.

Write TRUE (T) or FALSE (F) in the following statements:

____ A gas has a definitive shape and volume, and cannot be compressed

____ These two states of matter have a definitive volume: Solid and liquid

____ One substance can be in the three states of matter

____ A solid can flow

____ All three states of matter can be compressed

                                             SUMMARY
There are three states of matter: solid, liquid and gas.
A solid has a definitive shape and volume. It cannot be
                        compressed.
A liquid has a definite volume, but its shape can change. It can
be poured and can flow, but cannot be compressed.
A gas has no definitive shape or volume. It will fill the space
available. It can flow and it can be compressed.
