Heath Ledger was born in 1979 in Perth, Australia to parents Kim and Sally. He showed an early talent for drama in school but was bullied by his classmates. At age 17, he dropped out of school and moved to Sydney to pursue an acting career. His first role was in a small, forgettable film called Blackrock. He went on to secure roles in television shows and films in Australia before landing his breakout role in the 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You, allowing him to pursue roles in Hollywood.
