1. 5 Myths about Granite Countertops
There are many myths, out there, to attempt to deter you from purchasing a beautiful granite
countertop. Many of these warnings have been placed by granite alternatives. Today we will
debunk the five most popular myths aimed at discouragement.
The fact is that some of these are misunderstandings or positioned as absolute facts when in fact
they are only partial truths. Like everything else, there are pros and cons. One thing, though,
that continues to be true is that granite is and will be, for a long time, one of the most
sophisticated options for your kitchen. Here are the most talked about myths.
1. ​Granite is trendy and eventually will be out of fashion.
As mentioned above, this is not true on many levels. First, granite countertops are a classy look
that have been popular for over 15 years and has gone international. Second, it has surpassed
most trend timeframes and is still popular today. Finally, granite is a material that last for a
lifetime so more reason to incorporate it to your abode.
2. ​The Radon gasses that it emits are dangerous for the family.
Granite countertops are tested by the manufacturer for radon gasses. If you have doubts, ask.
The EPA has stated that granite countertops do not increase the amount of radon gasses in the
home. They are safe to have and safe for eating on - in fact, they were made with that in mind!
3. ​Heat damages granite.
They are not excessive-heat proof, though good quality granite is resistant to some heat.
Excessive heat can cause discoloration, so protect your countertop by using trivets.
4. ​Granite is too expensive.
Granite has gone down in price since it’s popularity expanded worldwide. If you are looking for
an absolute black granite countertop, expect to pay more than usual. If the price given to you
sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Make sure what you are buying is authentic. In
general, the cost is determined by the quality and timelessness of the granite. Be cautious when
you buy, but also know that you should be paying a reasonable price. Do your research.
5. ​They don’t scratch, stain, or crack as long as you apply a sealer.

2. As much as I would like to continue to promote granite, I have to be realistic about the
possibilities and debunk what is unreasonable. Everything depends on the quality. They are
resistant to much of that, but they are furniture that have to be taken care of. The better the
quality you buy and ultimately the more you pay upfront, the less you have to care for it. Much
of the reason you may want to purchase a granite countertop is because of it’s resistance and you
would be correct for doing so. Granite is tough and, therefore difficult to scratch, but it is not the
toughest material there is. You also have to use the right chemicals for cleaning. Some

you can use. Sealers are not always a good option. It depends on the quality of the granite and
some granite can be damaged by sealers. Make sure to ask the manufacturer about your granite.
