Six-term Biloxi Mayor A.J. Holloway has resigned due to
health reasons, according to GulfLive.com. His last day on
the job will be March 10.
Earlier this year, the city announced that the 75-year-old
former Ole Miss football star had checked himself into an
alcohol rehabilitation facility in Hattiesburg. Biloxi City
Councilman Felix Gines has been serving as Mayor Pro
Tem in Holloway's absence, the website reported.
The City Council is expected to meet next week to appoint
an interim mayor to serve until a special election can be
held, the website reported. Holloway was elected to the
Biloxi City Council in 1989 and as Mayor in 1993. His
