• You can find, on this page, several scholarship and financial aid resources for high school sophomores. Notice, however, that not all of the scholarships listed on this page are specifically for sophomore students; some are also for
freshmen, juniors and seniors. Further, in an effort to avoid duplication, we have only listed here scholarships that are not listed on our other pages (those that are most relevant for sophomores and those for which sophomores
have the biggest chance). So also visit our scholarships for high school freshmen, juniors and seniors pages for more scholarships that are available for high school sophomores (i.e. for those for which not only high school
sophomores, but also freshmen, juniors and seniors can apply). This page gathers together all scholarships that are relevant for high school sophomores:

• 1) DAR National Society Scholarships:
• For high school students (including sophomores) who plan to attend an accredited college or university in the U.S. Several scholarships of $1,000 to $2,000 are available in the fields of political science, history, economics and
government. For these, the deadline is February 15 of every year. A number of nursing and medical scholarships, of $1,000 to $5,000 are also available. For the latter, application deadline is April 15. Some of the scholarships
require a GPA of 3.25; some have no such requirements.

• 2) Freelance Writing Contests:
• Many awards of up to $12,000 are available for high school sophomores writing different genres of literary work, such as poems, prose, creative writing and non-fiction. Deadlines vary from January to December, depending on the
competition.

• 3) Tourism Cares Scholarships:
• For all high school students (including sophomores) who are interested in studying tourism or has a sheer interest in traveling. Several scholarships of varying amounts are available, and these are open to international
students, too; that is, there is no requirement of U.S. or Canadian citizenship. Most of these scholarships have a 3.00 out of 4.00 GPA requirement to apply, though some, e.g. the NTA Yellow Ribbon Scholarships, has a
lower, 2.50/4.00 requirement.

• 4) Women Information Technology Awards:
• For young women interested in information technology. Several different scholarship programs are available, and application deadlines and scholarship amounts vary. Most of the scholarships have a November deadline, though
some have December. Some of the scholarships are local, requiring you to reside in a particular state or district to apply. Some are nationwide, and some are international, open to students from all countries.

• 5) The Prudential Spirit of Community Scholarships:
• For high school students in the United States who have contributed to the society by volunteering. Several awards of $1,000 and $5,000 are available, depending on the category. Sophomores could use these awards before
college.

• 6) The Siemens Competition for Math, Science and Technology:
• For high school sophomores who submit individual projects (to be later presented as posters) in mathm science or technology. Several scholarships of up to $100,000 and gold, silver and bronze medals are available. Some of the
scholarships are local, so you would be competing within your state, and local scholarships are lower in amount. The deadline for the 2011 competition is October 3, 2011, at 5:00 pm (Eastern time). Though you can apply as
sophomores, you can use these scholarships for college tuition and fees, room and board or books, etc.

• 7) Imation Computer Arts Scholarship:
• For students who are nominated by their high school. Students need to create and submit a piece of computer generated piece of art. 25 scholarships of minimum $1000 are available.
