1. MAXIMISING YOUR MUSEUM’S POTENTIAL
AIM SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOPS 2012/13
Improving turnover in economically challenging times is a major challenge for all
museums. This series of one day workshops that are being repeated across the UK
are being funded by the Esmeé Fairbairn Foundation. They have been developed to
help smaller and medium sized independently managed museums, galleries and
heritage attractions identify and develop areas that could increase their income
and help them to become more sustainable.
By the end of the day you will have:
Identified the key areas for increasing your museum’s income
Set realistic and achievable targets to aim for
Developed a route map to enable you to achieve them
Identified external sources of help and adviceto help you reach them

10.30 Coffee
11.00 Facilitated session and group exercises to identify key areas and targets
12.30 Lunch
13.15 Case study/studies: How we did it –possibly a successful EFF project or host
institution
13.30 Facilitated session and group exercises to develop individual route maps
15.30 Group feedback. Facilitator to conclude.
16.00 AIM – Support form the Sustainability Grant Scheme.
16.30 Tea and disperse
Each workshop will be limited to a maximum of 30 participants to ensure individual
gain. Bursaries are available where individuals are unable to reclaim expenses and
distance travel is incurred.
Each workshop will be led by a facilitator with experience and knowledge of
commercial and funding development with smaller museums, supported by an AIM
Council member and AIM Executive Director.
