Challenges
Smartphones causes extreme load towards PS Core Network and
their user behaviour differ from what earlier has been persumed
”normal” behaviour
Most smartphones does not pay respect to the standardized values for
session management retransmissions, and are actively controlling the
radio bearer resources in order to save battery.
This behaviour has been seen in several occations to cause an otherwise
”minor incident” in the live network to escalate into several hours of service
outage.

Functionality to set user behaviour on signalling level
Data Traffic Behaviour
Functionality to run same or similar data traffic as seen from
Smartphones. For this the Recorded Traffic Feature is used.

SIMULATION OF SMARTPHONES’ SIGNALLING BEHAVIOUR
In order to simulate smartphone behaviour,
SITTsimulator has been extended with the
possibilities to configure the following parameters
Retransmission timeout
Controls the number of seconds between
retransmissions for session management
messages.
Maximum Retransmissions
Controls the maximum number of
retransmissions within a session management
procedure before the handset times out
Time before RAB release
The number of seconds ”idle-time” (not
transmitting payload) before the Radio Access
Bearer is actively taken down by the handset.
When the next payload packet is scheduled the
Radio Access Bearer will be re-established.
