The document discusses the results of a study on the effects of exercise on memory and thinking abilities in older adults. The study found that regular exercise can help reduce the decline in thinking abilities that often occurs with age. Specifically, aerobic exercise was shown to improve executive function and memory in adults aged 60-79 who exercised for 30-45 minutes three times a week over the course of a 6-month study period.
Introduce yourself and welcome everyone. I can see and hear that you are enjoying playing Pig, and as we go through the presentation, you will see how it relates to the new math program. In the next 1 – 1 ½ hours, we are going to learn about the new math program and hopefully have some more fun along the way. Today’s presentation will tell us (read the points as they appear on the screen) what stayed the same, what changed, what I should see in my child’s classroom, how I can help at home, and some frequently asked questions.
Less content does not mean that we need less time to teach mathematics. In the past years teachers at all grade levels have been telling us there just isn’t enough time to do the hands-on activities that they would like to do; there are just too many concepts to cover in the amount of time given to teach mathematics. We heard this and in response we have reduced the number of outcomes at each grade.

Let’s look at some examples
How did I change the image? Some students talk about the columns being slid. Some talk about flips. Some notice one of the dots is gone, some talk about the six having one less.
Go through the slide.
Children learn by attaching new knowledge and skills to their prior knowledge in hands-on, fun activities. No one loves your child more than you do. Nothing is more important than your family. Nothing is more important to your child than their parents. So it makes it fun and easy learning for your child when you include them in talks about numbers, shapes, time, money. Even thought you may feel that you cannot teach them any math, you will be expanding their concept development by giving them references to real life experiences. It is a critical part of their learning that school cannot provide. It may be a ‘new’ way of talking with your child. Try to remember to include ‘math talk’ when you are playing games, shopping, vacationing, driving, cooking, fixing, watching TV. Try to make it part of your daily conversations. I can see some puzzled looks on faces. The next section is Frequently Asked Questions, and perhaps I can answer some of your questions.
Let’s start with something we are all familiar with – addition of 2 digit numbers. There were 57 students in Mr. Heuser’s grade 2 class and 48 in Ms. Lyon’s grade 3 class. The two classes were going on a field trip together to the zoo. How many tickets would they need to buy so each student could go to the zoo? Again, we have tried to use PS as a way for students to attach meaning to their mathematics. The digits on the right are labeled “ones”. The digits on the left are labeled “tens ”. Start with the ones: 8 + 7 = 15 (This answer may be arrived at because the students know s this fact or they may use the add on strategy to get 15.)
