Mijwan Welfare Society A Dream of Late Kaifi Azmi
Who we are……………. We, Mijwan Welfare Society, are engaged in rural development with a specific focus on youth and girl children/women of Mijwan- a small village in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.
How we came into existence…………. Mijwan Welfare Society came into existence as a tribute to real India, The India which is still suffering under oppression, The India - still a victim of inequality, The India – still reeling under hurricane of gender bias. A son of Mijwan, who rebelled against the system and left his village when he was too young to search a route to end misery of common man, with a dream to bring smile on the face of marginalized people, pioneered a new approach to tackle the hardship of rural India.
The Visionary…………… A son of soil….. A Poet……. A Revolutionary…….. A Reformer……… A Lover …… A Feminist…….. finally An Indian…….Late Poet Kaifi Azmi who was born in this sleepy village in the most backward part of east Uttar Pradesh, realized the need to empower rural women and necessity of education among them. He decided to start this humble movement which in due time become a wheel of juggernaut, at his birthplace as his tribute to mankind.
Why Mijwan…………… Mijwan is a tiny sleepy village in a most backward region of Eastern Uttar Pradesh only four kilometers from an otherwise flourishing township of Phulpur in Azamgarh, gave India it’s one of the finest Urdu Poet of modern India who became popular as next to Mirza Ghalib, a legendary Urdu Poet of Moghul India, in his lineage.   When Kaifi left Mijwan for Lucknow for studies, it was still without electricity and any motor able road to connect this tiny village to nearest township only four kilometers away. Ironically, when Kafi came back to his birthplace after a gap of four decades, he found it to be same as it was when he left.
Vision of the Visionary……………. Kaifi’s heart bled and thus came out his pain through his mighty pen. He vowed to end this misery and started Mijwan Welfare Society with the help of local people to provide education and skill development training courses at his village only.   The Feminist par excellence Kaifi committed to bring girl children to the ambit of formal school education.   The Reformist Kaifi always wanted to stop exodus of village youth to larger cities and resisted villager’s dependency on urban economy.   Though born in a family of landlords, Kaifi remained a farmer at heart. He was keen to find a suitable alternative to increase family income involving & empowering women of rural India.
What we are today………….. Mijwan Welfare Society is running an Intermediate College for Girls, A state of Art Computer Center and a Tailoring & Embroidery Centre for Women. MWS has also promoted one Farmer’s Club and a couple of Self Help Groups (SHG) for women. The projects are running on its own premises which are equipped with all modern amenities and are equipped with Generators & Inverters to ensure uninterrupted power supply.    Computer Centre is equipped with 16 Computers and Broadband Internet connection. It has two Laboratories each for Boys and Girls.
Tailoring & Embroidery Centre has 28 Sewing Machines for training and commercial production. MWS has created an army of skilled workers on Chikan Embroidery, a speciality of Lucknow known to be introduced in India by Empress NoorJehan in Moghul Era.         MWS is also active in spreading awareness and advocating Women’s Right.   MijwanWelfare Society is thriving to achieve its target under able guidance and leadership of Ms. Shabana Azmi, equally illustrious daughter of the Founder.
Our plan to reach out………….. Mijwan Welfare Society is under the obligation to establish a Technical Training Collage for Higher Education to fulfill the dreams of its Founder to provide skill development courses to the youth of Mijwan and adjacent places.
MWS also planned to expand its limit to nearby Blocks to train as much Girls/Women to start its commercial activity to generate revenue to sustain its activities.
Our requirement……………. Mijwan Welfare Society requires cash donation of Rs.1 Crore to create a corpus fund. The Interest accrued upon the Corpus would be utilized to sustain the activities of its Educational Institutes. ,[object Object]
