2. The eruption of Taal Volcano has caused ₱3.35 billion worth of damage to agriculture and
infrastructure in Batangas, Laguna, and Cavite, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction
and Management Council.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and several local government units (LGUs)
have sent heavy equipment and respective operators to help the heavily affected areas in their
rebuilding and reconstruction efforts.
DPWH Road Assessment and Rehabilitation
The DPWH conducted a thorough assessment of major bridges and roads in Batangas after the
eruption sent tremors, causing cracks on the streets. The goal was to determine the full extent of
damage on the roads and whether construction activities can safely proceed.
The agency has also sent disaster response equipment and vehicles to assist in the evacuation and
road clearing operations in the province.
Field engineers, operators, three units of dump trucks, two units of road grader, two units of pay
loader, and one unit of flood mitigation equipment were sent to the heavily affected areas in
Batangas.
These pieces of equipment helped clean the ash fall and debris blocking the roads.
3. Assistance from LGUs
The provincial government of Pampanga has deployed a 50-vehicle convoy of social workers, medical teams,
and search and rescue personnel to aid in the evacuation of affected residents. The LGU also sent food packs
for the evacuees.
Heavy equipment and trucks were sent to evacuate more residents to safer grounds and help clear the roads
of ashes.
Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda recalled the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991 when the province
received financial assistance and donations from various LGUs as well, deciding that it is time to give back.
The Marikina City Government also assisted in the reconstruction effort of Taal and surrounding provinces
by sending heavy equipment. Similar to the aid provided by DPWH, Marikina deployed operators,
personnel planners, engineers, and architects to aid in the rehabilitation.
