3. My first intro to
Innovation
Was by Indian Mythological stories called
“Mooshak Katha”
Where a poor intelligent person earned money and
married minister’s daughter by using innovatve
ideas using a dead mouse.
My grand mother read that story to me when I was
may be just 5 years old.
4. Innovation is ...
Easy
Discovery of New Ways of Creating Value
Looking at new ways of resolving critical problems
Speed, Action, grabbing oppurtunity, adding few
things together
5. Innovation is Speed
In 1995, I got the opportunity to debug a Satellite
Receiver being developed on a Motorola product.
There was a crisis as the channel was being
launched in few days and units were not working.
I learned about Motorola part and delivered
solution in 3 days flat.
In next few weeks, my customer delivered satellite
receivers to the cable channel. This was my first
success on seeing my work in commercial market.
6. Innovation is Action
demand of a product called Set Top Converter due
to increasing channels by cable TV network and
limitations of TVs to offer more than12 channels.
I visited Mumbai to see that product being
exhibited in cable TV exhibition.
I learned about that product, made a proto type of
set top converter in less than 3 weeks.
It was a huge success and I earned my first million.
7. Innovation is seeing
opportunity
In 1998, I saw an ad by MTNL that they are
offering caller ID on land line phones.
I was excited at that opportunity.
I learned about caller ID, DTMF and designed
caller ID for landline phones.
It was a huge success at that time, I made my
second million by sellng that design.
8. Innovation is addition
In 2002, a gentleman approched me and he
wanted to design for bath tub with multiple features
in one.
I was able to show him a demo just by adding my
designs for FM Radio, Aircon, Caller ID, Timers.
Though I did not make money but got lot of fun and
excitment.
9. Innovations is Consistency
Innovation is not done once and fruits enjoyed for
ever.
After commercialising few designs, I created a
team and delegated my job and focussed on
marketing.
Innovations stopped and so do money inflow.
Me and my company came to level zero in 2 years
time.
10. Innovations is
Resilence
Success and Failure are not for ever.
We restarted after 3 years of no-inovations.
In August 08 we designed(reverse engineered) a
automatic fare collection machine for Delhi Metro.
In Jan 08 we have developed an intelligent traffic
lights.
11. Innovations need
Protection
One of the reasons for my loss of revenue was that
my designs/innovations were copied.
This time, we have taken precautions and have
filed for patents before even showing our designs
to prospective customers.
I have been attending and learning about IP
Protection.
12. In short Innovations
is Fun
Generates Wealth
Needs care and protection as much as your kids
and loved one need it.
Create Joy-n-Freedom for every one.
