Anisole is an organic compound with the formula CH3OC6H5 that is a colorless liquid with a smell reminiscent of anise seed. It is mainly made synthetically and is used as a precursor to other synthetic compounds. The anisole market was over $77 million in 2017 and is projected to grow close to 5% annually through 2024, driven by demand from the cosmetics sector for its artificial fragrance properties in various cosmetic products.
