Dr. Anula Sisodia, MCH is a Cardio-thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon in
the SMS hospital and medical college, jaipur. Curecity has an interview with
her on World Heart Day, September 29. A brief of the questions and answers
are as follows:
Question 1 - What are the basic reasons of cardiac diseases?
Answer 1 – There are 3 types of heart diseases
1. Congenital heart diseases – It is a general term for a range of birth
defects that affect the normal workings of the heart. The term "congenital"
means the condition is present at birth. That has to be corrected,
sometimes immediately sometimes later on.

2. Infectious heart diseases – These heart diseases include pericarditis,
endocarditis, and myocarditis, are caused when an irritant, such as a
bacterium, virus or chemical, reach your heart muscle. The most common
causes of heart infections include Bacteria, viruses.
3. Coronary heart disease – It is the heart attack. It is different from
cardiac arrest. A heart attack is because of blockages in the vessels. Two
main vessels left coronary artery and the right coronary artery, supplies
blood to the heart. Left is again divided into two branches and the same
with the right artery. If any of the vessels get 100% blocked, the patients
get an attack. And if it is 60% or 70% blockage, then a person will feel pain
in his chest or may have a heart attack.
The second and third types of heart diseases are increasing worldwide,
especially in developing countries like India. WHO is more concerned about
these and have a target of reducing these by 25% by 2025. Awareness and
preventive care are the most powerful tools to achieve it.

role in developing cardiac diseases. One should not consume much of
cholesterol (Oil etc). Walking, cycling and regular exercise are good for the
heart.
One should consult a doctor in case of chest pain, unusual tiredness, or
uneasiness. A regular check-up also helps in prevention.

diseases?
Answer 3 – ECG is the most common and first test for the diagnosis of
cardiac diseases. CPMT is a further test and angiography is the final test.
2D/3D echo is also a common test.

expensive in private hospitals.
What do you suggest a person
with a general economic
condition?
Answer 5 – The cost for the
bypass heart surgery in a
government hospital is fifty to
sixty thousand, whether he or she
is rich or poor. And if it is related
to valve surgery, it costs ninety
thousand for a single valve
(mechanical valve) and one lakh for bioprosthetic.
These days’ governments are running flagship projects to support Indian
citizens for their health care. These includes Bhamashah card, BPL card, etc.
Patients also get help from Prime Minister’s and Chief Minister’s fund.
Question 6 - Anything else you want to include, please tell us?
Answer 6 – This year’s theme of World Heart Day is “Power your life”. On
this, I want to say that prevention is the best strategy. Do regular exercises,
go for a routine health checkup, reduce your stress, control your diabetic,
blood pressure, and cholesterol and don't panic in case of cardiac
problems, as the cure is available at nearby places and affordable for
everyone.
If one has chest pain or uneasiness, it may be a heart risk. Don’t take these
symptoms lightly. It is required to have a checkup. Early detection reduces
the risk of heart attack.
