In his article entitled “Don’t Make Your Domain Name A Word Search Puzzle”, Internet Marketing and 
SEO  expert  Josh  Hoopes  emphasizes  that  one  of  the  simplest  things  that  you  can  do  for  your  online 
business and increase your response rate is to come up with a URL that is easily readable and coherent 
enough to attract your target customers attention.  

Because  of  the  wealth  of  information  that  is  currently  available  to  people  with  just  a  click  of  their 
mouse, online users tend to have short attention spans. Hence, it is of critical importance that you make 
a  good  impression,  present  your  value  proposition,  and  invite  users  to  take  action  within  those  very 
limited and precious moments that you have their attention. Miss this bus and it is most likely that you 
would have missed the entire opportunity entirely! By all accounts you will only have that single brief 
moment to make or break your offer. 

He brought up this topic after he noticed how many websites on & offline are configuring their URLs as if 
they were word search puzzles;  thereby complicating their site  for their target customers to read and 
remember instead of making it simpler and more user‐friendly for them. He could understand if these 
sites  belonged  to  big  brands  as  these  companies  usually  don’t  adhere  to  the  principles  of  direct 
response marketing because they have other more traditional methods of marketing their products and 
building  their  respective  brands  and  often  disregard  direct  response  marketing  basics.  But  what  he 
actually  saw  were  a  lot  of  sites  belonging  to  small  businesses  which  should  have  been  able  to  take 
advantage  of  the  internet  to  put  their  businesses  in  front  of  their  target  audience  by  coming  up  with 
solid internet marketing initiatives, including a clear and catchy domain name that includes their primary 
key word used to search for them. 

According  to  Josh  Hoopes,  following  are  some  of  the  most  important  tips  that  online  businesses  can 
follow to ensure that they make a good impression with their URL or domain name: 

    1. As much as possible, you should use a clean type of font that is easy to read. 
    2. If your domain has more than one word, capitalize the first letter of each word. 
    3. Use bold font or color some words in order to highlight your domain name in such a way that it 
       would be easy for your readers to remember and at the same time catch their attention. 
    4. Use all caps for the acronyms in your domain name. 
    5. If you have an acronym and a word in your domain name, you may color the acronym followed 
       by the word, or cap the acronym and then followed by the word, e.g. CNNmobile.com 
 
These are fairly simple steps for any business to take, but absolutely increase user readability at a glance 
and  that  often  makes  the  difference  to  the  tremendous  upside  potential  to  ultimately  benefit  their
