Lucite tombstones, also known by other popular terms, such as deal toys, have been a staple within the investment banking community for decades. The purpose of Lucite tombstones is two-fold: first, to reward and recognize its own employees---those who have contributed to the deal’s success.
The other, more significant function of “tombstones” is to provide a valued memento for the bank’s clients---something that their client, on whose behalf the deal was done, would be likely to value and keep.
