Above all • Ephesians 6:16New King James Version (NKJV) 16 above all, out in front of all your other weapons, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. • The phrase “above all” is taken from the Greek phrase epi pasin. epi means over. • pasin means all or everything. • epi pasin describes the position faith should have over the other pieces of armor. • It could be better translated, “Out in front of all….” or “Covering all….” • “Above all” tells you that your “shield of faith” is never meant to be held next to your side or timidly held behind your back. • Faith needs to be out front where it can completely cover you and protect you from harm. It can never be put down. Without it you can never be saved, much less fight the enemy. • If faith is not in front, doubt will take the lead. What happens it you put down your shield?

This would cause the fiery arrows to extinguish on impact. • As the Roman soldier saturated his shield, we too, need to keep our shield of faith saturated with the word of God and prayer.

- Today I would like to draw your attention to several very important points in this verse. First, I want you to notice the phrase “…wherewith ye shall be able….” The first part of this Greek phrase would be better translated by which. For the words “ye shall be able,” the Greek word used here is the word dunamis, which denotes explosive power or dynamic power and is where we get the word “dynamite.” When these Greek words and phrases are used together as they are in Ephesians 6:16, it could actually be translated, “Above all, taking the shield of faith, by which you will be dynamically empowered.…” Therefore, the phrase “above all” emphatically tells you that your “shield of faith” is never meant to be held next to your side or timidly held behind your back. Faith is supposed to be out front where it can completely cover you and protect you from harm — especially when you are marching forward to take new ground for the Kingdom of God! With the imagery of a Roman soldier before him, Paul used the Roman soldier’s shield to illustrate the shield of faith that God has provided for you and me. But when those arrows strike into the heart or emotions, they often explode and set human passions a flame, causing a minor issue to develop into a fierce, flaming situation. The damage done in such a moment is very serious and if it could have been avoided if the shield of faith had been held high and regularly doused in the water of the Word! There is no doubt that the devil will try to shoot his arrows in your direction. But having a shield of faith that is soaked (in the word makes all the difference). In the Word of God gives you double protection against these attacks. It guarantees that the enemy’s fiery darts will have little or not effect, even if they get close enough to strike your heart, mind or emotions in the midst of the situations you find yourself facing today. Take your time to soak in the word of God. Let the Word saturate and shield you so that when the enemy launches a surprise attack on you – your health, our finances, your marriage, your children, your family, your church, your business, or your job and career, – he will find that his fiery darts have no impact on your Word-soaked faith shield! Refuse to let yourself become the devil’s victim! Hold your Word-doused shield of faith high in front of you so it completely covers your life. Then rest assured that no fiery dart of the enemy will make any serious impact on you. That faith shield will protect you from anything the enemy throws you through the dynamic; explosive power of God! How do you soak your shield? Look at these scriptures: Joshua 1: 8; Proverbs 4: 20-27; Romans 4: 16-18; Romans 10: 8-11; Matthew 12: 35-37; Proverbs 18: 21; Sing God’s Word and the truth of His Word and apply it to me personally. I speak and sing in the first person. When I have pain or symptoms in my body, it reminds me of God’s promise of healing. If I have a financial need, I don’t look to my checkbook. I look into the word and begin to speak out loud those promises that cover my situation. When I am faced with a situation that I have no clue about how to remedy. I ask and receive God’s wisdom according to James chapter 1. He who lacks wisdom….. If I am not sure about the promise. If I am not sure I believe the promise, I meditate on that scripture, praying in tongues, asking Holy Spirit for revelation and I go on that path until I know in my knower! The scripture rolls around in my mind until it drops into my heart and then there is no doubt. - Sometimes it is hard to keep the shield of faith up. All I know to do with that is say keep praying, keep believing, keep rejoicing. I have been rather down lately. Different things have been weighing heavily on me lately. . I can be very hard on myself. Not being able to teach, looking at my life refectively and seeing unaccomplished goals However Tuesday, something happened That helped me to start looking at the good things. The blessings I do have. You see, Kim texted me and let me know that the Bible study has helped her and she used parts of it to teach her family. That one simple act, helped encourage me and helped me to focus on the things that were good. It’s a struggle, this life is not easy.l Life simply doesn’t always go our way, but guess what, we have a Savior who has walked our walk and he knows exactly what fiery darts are.
