Washington -- U.S. home prices rose 9.3
percent in February compared with a year ago,
the most in nearly seven years, according to the
Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller 20-city home
price index. The gains were driven by a growing
number of buyers who bid on a limited supply
of homes.
In Metro Detroit, prices soared by 14.6 percent
compared with February 2012, a much bigger
jump than the 3.5 percent increase shown
between February 2011 and the same month in
2012. As with the rest of the country, prices are
being inflated by the low number of homes for
sale, as the glut of foreclosures from recent
