ASEAN is an association of 10 Southeast Asian countries established in 1967 to promote economic growth, social progress, cultural development, and regional peace among its members. Originally formed by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, ASEAN has since expanded to include Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia. A key goal of ASEAN is to form an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015 to create a single market and production base with free flow of goods, services and investments.
