Hello everybody and welcome to our 5th SlideShare post!
The slides you are seeing are taken from our fifth webinar: Punching above its weight - How Denmark is winning hyperscale datacenters (you can find the video here: https://youtu.be/GGDhnQ7U9Os).
Our special guest, Merima Dzanic (Chief Marketing Officer at Danish Data Center Industry) helped us understand the digital evolution of the Nordics, giving us some insights about the datacenter industry in Denmark, explaining why the country is becoming the place-to-be for datacenters and hyperscalers looking for a way to be highly efficient and sustainable at the same time.

10. The Growing Nordic Datacenter Market
● Investments in Nordic datacenters are set to double by 2025*
● Expected annual construction investments in the order of EUR 2-4.3
billion*
● Annual projected installed annual capacity of 280-580 MW per year*
● Major fiber optic installations linking the Nordics (Denmark-New
Jersey) to North America and Asia are in the planning stages
● Quickest routes to moving traffic will be via the Nordics countries in
the very near future

14. Attracting Hyperscalers & Staying Green:
The Denmark Challenge & Advantage
According to a Danish Energy Agency forecast, the operation
of datacenters will account for 17%of Denmark electricity
consumption in 2030. About half of this consumption
will be related to cooling procedures.
15. Denmark: The Land of Sustainability
● Reliable power grid with an uptime of 99.99% and 80% of power lines
underground
● A mild climate that allows low-energy cooling all year round
● Low-risk sites available with N-1 132/150 kV power supply
● Good access to large-scale sites due to low population density
● 72% of the Danish power supply comes from renewable sources
● Reuse of waste heat for district heating, which warms 64% of all Danish homes
● A growing clean-tech sector
● Sustainability is encoded in the DNA of Nordics
16. Efficiency and Sustainable Development:
the Danish Strategy
Sustainable development is about finding ways to develop
environmental, financial, and social resources that meet the needs of
the present without compromising the ability of future generations
to meet their own needs.
It is built on three pillars:
18. How can the Digital Evolution be
Sustainable
● Renewable energy and integration of the datacenter into our energy
networks to utilize reuse of heat.
● Latest approaches in power and cooling innovations – make it
easier for industry wide adoption.
● Automation technologies: Software-Defined Datacenter.
● Corporate Responsibility and IT Infrastructure Reuse (Circular
Economy).
● The Incentive for Investing today for reusability in the future.
19. Your Journey in the Datacenter Business
● Capacity Media – working on telecoms conferences in Europe,
Asia and North America
● DatacenterDynamics – leading the EMEA portfolio
● Master of Science in Business Management, focusing on data
center skills and automation technologies
● Danish Data Center Industry – leading the strategic direction of
the association
20. Diversity in Danish Datacenter Industry
● Fundamental skills crisis: The rate of the growth disproportionate with the
workforce (as analysed by Jeff Omelchuck in our previous webinar)
● Turner and Townsend Data Center Cost Survey Results: only 12% of
respondents believed that there are sufficient number of consultants and
contractors in the market with datacenter experience.
● The skills gap will not solve itself: to meet the growing industry demand for
datacenters, it is essential to acknowledge the importance of improving
gender diversity in the workforce.
● Greater focus on STEM subjects, focused education and upskilling.
○ Denmark ranks 5th in the EU, with 1/2 female STEM participation.
● Employing more women in the boardroom of tech giants to set the standard.
