Rotary Youth Exchange Offering
Enriching High School Study
Abroad Programs
The youth exchange arm of the Rotary International, Rotary Youth Exchange
has raised the bar when it comes to providing foreign education and travel
opportunities to US and Canadian students. The organization is well equipped
to deliver safe, enriching, and pocket-friendly students exchanges the world
over. Both, short-term and long-term exchanges are provided to meet different
needs. The short-term exchanges are conducted during summers when school
is not in session. They may stretch from a few weeks to a couple of months
and are usually structured as home-stays, tours, family-to-family, and
international youth camps.
The spokesperson at Rotary Youth Exchange recently stated, “For a generation
bred on virtual interactions, real interactions can be life-enriching. It’s the idea
that powers Rotary Youth Exchange. We take students out of their comfort
zone and make them interact with different people, different cultures, and
different faiths in alien shores. The interaction helps them emerge as a global
citizen who’s ready to celebrate differences, find common grounds, and
challenge the status quo. Plus, they learn multiple languages, acquire
leadership traits, build lasting friendships, and develop a rational mindset
essential for personal and professional growth.”
Rotary Youth Exchange’s selection criteria and process are simple,
transparent and streamlined.
The exchanges are open for boys and girls, aged between 14 and 19 years.
He/she needs to be a leader in his/her community and keen to explore new
experiences and assimilate with new people. The interested student has to
apply early, as selections can be selective at times. For long-term exchanges
scheduled in the following August, the student should apply in September the
previous year. The application and selections are administered locally through
The Rotary Youth Exchange Committee. The committee can be approached
for any assistance.
On High School Study Abroad Programs, the spokesperson further stated,
“High School Study Abroad Program is our flagship program. The program is
spread across one full academic year, involving the student’s stay with a
couple of host families. These families are handpicked for their hospitality and
trained to take care of the exchange student in the best ways possible. The
host families will provide healthy meals, along with emotional support when
needed. The student’s learning needs are also well catered to, as he/she is
enrolled in a local school. The idea is to help the student become bicultural
and bilingual and change his perspective of life.
Rotary Youth Exchange’s High school study abroad summer programs are
sponsored by the parent organization and hence, highly affordable. The
lodging, food, and school fees are covered in program fees. However, the
student has to pay for round-trip airfare, travel insurance, and travel
documents, such as passports and visas, in addition to tour expenses. The
organization ensures the safety of the student throughout the program with
24/7/365 worldwide emergency assistance.
