7 WEDDING MAKE UP TIPS YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS
AUGUST 20, 2015 BY STUDIO FOUR
Every bride wants to look her best for her wedding, so you may be worrying about getting
your make up just right for the big day. The good news is that with the right guidance and
the right products, it’s easier than you think. So whether you’re planning on hiring a
professional or doing it yourself, here are the seven wedding make up tips you won’t want
to head down the aisle without knowing:
1. Start a Good Skin Routine Now
Even though make up is designed to hide imperfections, you don’t want a surprise
breakout or dark circles interfering with your bridal look. Establish a routine that’s
good for your skin now — including not only normal washing and moisturizing, but
also things like eating healthily and drinking plenty of water — and try not to deviate
from it before the wedding. Keep in mind that treatments like facials aren’t last-minute fixes, and in fact may irritate your skin at
first. So it’s best not to schedule those for the last few days leading up to your wedding.
2. Decide on Whether You’re Tanning
There’s no sense in looking at make up products until you’ve decided on whether or not you’ll be tanning before the wedding.
(This is smart from a wedding budgeting standpoint, too; many people forget “small” expenses like last-minute tanning when

2. budgeting for a wedding. And when the average cost of a wedding in the U.S. as of 2012 was $28,400, those small expenses can
add up.)
3. Pay Attention to Your Base
For your wedding day, you’ll need your make up to last for hours. To protect against sweat, oiliness, and smearing, make sure
you’re starting your make up with a quality skin primer. Primers essentially provide a foundation for your foundation that keeps
you looking flawless all day long.
4. Think 20 Years Down the Road
Given that there are around 2.5 million weddings in the U.S. each year, you’re probably hoping to make yours stand out in some
way. But your make up probably isn’t the way to do that. Scrutinize today’s trends and think how they’ll look when you’re going
through your wedding pictures 20 years from now. Bright colors and exaggerated styles generally won’t stand the test of time.
5. Test Your Look on Camera
Your wedding make up is about looking great on camera, as well as in person; today we snap as many photos every two minutes
as humans did in the whole 19th century, and on your wedding day every camera in the vicinity will be pointed at you. So when
you do a trial run of your make up, photograph it. Most creative wedding photographers now include an engagement session in
packages, so you can always use that photo shoot to test your look.
6. Give Yourself Plenty of Time
This is perhaps the most important of all wedding make up tips: Give yourself plenty of time to get ready. Even if you’re usually a
fan of a classic five-minute face, it’s best to have 45 minutes or an hour set aside so you or your make up artist can get things
perfect.
7. Pack an Emergency Touch-Up Kit
Make sure you have sample sizes of your make up products in an accessible spot (or even designate a bridesmaid or other helper
to hold onto it and let you know when you need a touch-up).
