Editor's Notes
The current timetable and participation: There are repeat customers and residents who attend lots of workshops, but many residents haven’t attended any and in particular residents that live in houses have the lowest attendance.
Outreach to every resident: Myself and the team over a period of 2 week will personally meet with every resident in the building introducing them to our team and our services. We will go door to door which works well as I have used this technique recently when working for the Marketing Department. It is important for us to make face to face contact as an introduction with each resident so that they can feel valued and start to form a connection with the team which will result in them being more likely to try/attend a workshop or activity.
On Outreach each resident will be given an Enrichment Form (which I also suggest is to be included in the moving in pack) And each resident will be asked to complete it when we meet them personally. The Enrichment form is short Questionnaire which is an assessment tool that I have created, to identify the needs/ and levels of where each resident feels that they at.
The Gold AwardThe Gold Award is for a resident who has shown exceptional involvement in projects and have participated in advancing themselves during their stay at the YMCA. Awards will be given every 3/6 months at the Awards Celebration evenings. For example Daiva would receive a Gold Award for volunteering running the Art Class and Ronnie would receive one for outstanding musical achievement. The reward could be that I would personally create a simple website for all residents who achieved the Gold Award, which celebrates their particular talent/skill or contribution. The Silver AwardThe Silver Award is for residents who shown great progress, have participated in the majority of workshops and projects and who have shown commitment and have improved in their confidence and socials skills as a result. People who have achieved the Silver receive 2 weeks free gym membership including a session with the personal trainer. The Bronze AwardThe Bronze Award is for residents who have completed the Enrichment form have engaged in some activities and workshops at least 6 in a 12 week term, and have booked a 1 2 1 session with ETS or Functional Skills Tutor through the website or in person and have attended and shown good overall progress and participation. The reward for bronze is that they are offered a choice of 3 sessions of life coaching or assistance in developing an half an hour workshop on a topic of their choice
Residents will receive these Award Certificates and prizes at the end of term Celebration Evening where we will showcase residents talents and achievements.
I have designed a prototype of the website which could be used to help boost engagement and interest levels. I will update the website with the recent activity photos videos and articles and arrange for those featured to sign video/photo consent/release forms. For example we might upload some pictures of the group walks a week. Anyone who does not wish to be in photos or on the website will have the option to opt out.
Residents can be asked if they think that something needs to be changed or enhanced after each engagement.
Collecting feedback is essential to our progress and will be a key part in assessing and enhancing our teams effectiveness.
Using the gym, taking part in cooking lessons would take a resident from Bronze to Silver status. I propose to work with Christina in encouraging residents to eat healthily and to use canteen food instead of unhealthy take aways, boosting their takings and the residents health.
The idea is that most people who are living here are aiming to get a place in the local area, it would be greatly beneficial for them to learn of all the possible places they can go to get involved with the local community. Places like the quaker center, the environment center and its many gardening projects and the university are all places we could visit to broaden the residents horizons
The idea here is for the residents to feel like they are valued and part of creating something great or making history. The website will have space for residents to put up their podcasts, beginning with ‘10 things you should know about X’ where they introduce themselves and share their knowledge on a chosen subject. They can do a 20 min radio show introducing and playing their favorite music. once we have a collection of these, we can start to put podcasts together and create a radio show.
We will complete a building wide survey to see what skills people have and what they would like to see, from that point we can include an enrichment form In the residents’ starting pack so we get feedback from everyone.
With a clear, user friendly website the residents’ can see what’s on and available to them and how to get involved. With a video intro
, including a logo, short introductory videos about who we are and what we do, website and
I am to run regular meetings and check in on how the team are doing. The aim is to get as many residents to gold status, so we will be competitions on who can reach the most people and get them to engage/advance themselves
Sticking closely with the YMCA’s mind body and spirit ethos I aim to show clearly how the CAT team have helped each resident in some way.
By getting the residents directly involved with fundraising we are helping create something which they have asked for. By doing so they will value and use the studio.
Through our events we aim to boost resident engagement and raise funds for activities
