What is Social Media?
A computer-based technology that facilitates the sharing of
ideas, thoughts, and information through virtual networks and
communities.
People use social media to stay in touch and interact with friends,
family and various communities. Businesses use social applications
to market and promote their products and track customer
concerns.
Business-to-consumer websites include social components, such as
comment fields for users. Various tools help businesses track,
measure and analyze the attention the company gets from social
media, including brand perception and customer insight.
Mobile applications make these platforms easily
accessible. Some popular examples of general
social media platforms include Twitter,
Facebook and LinkedIn.
3. Social media has given teens the ability to instantly
connect with others and share their lives through
photos, videos and status updates. Teens themselves
describe these platforms as a key tool for connecting
and maintaining relationships, being creative, and
learning more about the world. But they also must
contend with more negative aspects of social media
use, such as drama and bullying or feeling pressure
to present themselves in a certain way.
