1. Gingival Depigmentation
‘Pathway from brown to pink’
Demand for depigmentation is usually made for
esthetic reasons, particularly in patients having
gingival hyperpigmentation along with a high
smile line. This poster presents two cases
treated with surgical stripping and use of lasers.

The color of the oral melanin pigmentation may vary from light to dark brown or black.
Melanin hyperpigmentation is caused by increased activity of melanocytes, which are
located in the basal and suprabasal cell layers of the gingival epithelium. Gingival
hyperpigmentation is a benign problem that mars an attractive smile thus
depigmentation procedures are primarily done for esthetic concerns.

6. Conclusion
The growing esthetic concern requires removal of
unsightly hyperpigmented areas to create a plesant
confidant smile. In this poster, we showcased two cases,
one treated by three different techniques namely,
Er:YAG, CO2 laser ablation and surgical stripping and
the second case by surgical stripping alone. All
modalities of treatment showed satisfactory results with
regard to esthetics, safety, and effectiveness.

7. Conclusion
