This document provides an overview of imperialism in Ethiopia in the 20th century. It notes that Ethiopia resisted Italian colonization efforts, making it the only African country to avoid European colonization. However, imperialism still impacted Ethiopia through opening up more jobs, businesses, and education opportunities. It benefited the Western world economically but had negative effects in Africa. Imperialism helped develop infrastructure like roads but also caused the deaths of many great Ethiopian rulers and wars over border issues that helped shape modern-day Ethiopia. The country remains ethnically diverse with the largest groups being the Oromo and Amhara peoples.
Ethiopia Misunderstood Country In The WorldJan Champagne
Ethiopia is often misunderstood as a country defined solely by poverty, famine, and drought, but it has a rich culture and history that is largely unknown. It has spectacular natural beauty ranging from highlands over 14,000 feet high to the Danakil Depression, the lowest point on Earth. Girma Berta's photography collection "Moving Shadows II" aims to counter Western stereotypes of Africans by featuring everyday people in Addis Ababa to highlight their individual stories and diversity. The geology of Ethiopia has been shaped by Cenozoic flood basalts and shield volcanoes, as well as continental rifting forming the East African Rift.

The document discusses the history and ongoing journey of the women's movement over the past 100 years. It summarizes key events like the establishment of International Women's Day in 1911 and its adoption as an official UN holiday in 1975. While much progress has been made in areas like voting rights, the document argues more still needs to be done to achieve full equality and end discrimination. Education and technology have empowered women but vigilance is needed lest gains be eroded. The spirit shown by women in facing adversity and empowering future generations is celebrated.
The document discusses the history and development of American Sign Language (ASL) and the Deaf education movement. It explains that early forms of sign language have existed throughout human history. However, ASL became prominent in the 1800s when Thomas Gallaudet traveled to Europe to learn how to educate deaf children after wanting to help his neighbor's deaf daughter. Upon returning, he worked with Laurent Clerc, a deaf French professor, to found the first school for the deaf in the United States, establishing ASL as the primary mode of communication and helping advance deaf education. The essay examines how ASL has since evolved into the language used widely by the Deaf community today.

As a child, Ngor fled his village after it was attacked and walked over 1,000 miles to Ethiopia, then later to Kenya as a refugee. He lived in refugee camps with minimal food and water. In 1998, he was sponsored to come to the US for education. He earned multiple degrees, became a DuPont engineer, and was reunited with his mother and sister after over 20 years. The document highlights Ngor's resilience and perseverance in overcoming hardship to achieve success.

2. It’s my honor to be here this evening. & I just want take a few moment to thank Zethiopia,... & for all of you
for being here this evening…. I often said, so often we come or go to our community to see things we don’t like.
So many times what we do is WE COMPLAIN, over and over and over again. As a matter of fact we became
a part of the PPP. The Pity Party Professionals:- complaining, complaining, complaining, but ever making a
phone call, not ever marching, but yet we complain, and then years passes by; and things have not gotten bet-
ter. That’s why I take my few moments to salute these women. I thank you for being standing up when others
may have sitting down. I thank you so much.

When Dr. Melaku Lakew gathered people like Aklilu Demissie,
Tadesse Goshime, Shawel Beyene, Markos Mulugeta, Yaregal Ge-
breyesus and Wondem Teferra to form what became known as the
Society of Ethiopians Established in Diaspora (SEED) in 1993 their
objective was to promote Ethiopia and anything Ethiopian to the
public in the west and correct some of the misperceptions about this
country and its people that are widely found among Americans and
Europeans. It has been doing so through variety of programs includ-
ing annual dinners for recognitions and awards, quarterly newslet-
ter, and an online interactive database. The annual dinner, which
takes place in May of every year, provides an opportunity to bestow
on those Ethiopians both at home and in Diaspora whose distin-
guished record beckons praise and admiration.

4. To present the Ethio-American
relations, during the Kennedy-Haile
Selasseie Era, on November 19/2005,
at Zethiopia 3rd Anniversary Gala,
Zethiopia screened a rarely seen foot-
age of His Imperial Majesty Haile Se-
lassie’s Vist to the US. The following
was Kathleen Kennedy Townsend’s,
remarks on the video
“So I thought it was great to be with
you tonight, and be able to tell about
how we have all these strong con-
nections between Ethiopia & and the
Kennedy family and the family of Haile Selassie.”
…Although this the tough time, and to tell you the truth, I can
relate to it. It is a tough time for American cultures as well, but we
have to keep it a alive, because the history of Ethiopia is unique in
the history of the world.
The other thing I want to say, you know, when I took this long
walk with my grand mother, I heard over and over and over again,
how much my grand mother was there, went to Haile Selassie’s
birthday. And while we walking to my grand mothers house...she
died when she was 105, but she walking to our house, the first
picture you see her & Haile Selassie she put it in absolute bigger
place in prominence and if you go to the upstairs 2nd floor right
next to her bedroom, she got two more pictures of Haile-Selassie
…. So I had to tell you when she described what she wore how
she choose her dress what jewelry she wore….. she was so ex-
cited about meeting him. So I thought it was great to be with you
tonight, and be able to tell about how we have all these strong
connections between Ethiopia & and the Kennedy family and the
family of Haile Selassie. Thank you

the University of Maryland and currently serves on the boards of
directors of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, Center for
