The Open source market is getting overcrowded with different Network monitoring solutions, and not without reason, monitoring your infrastructure become more important each day, you have to know what's going on for your boss, your customers and for yourself. Nagios started the evolution, but today OpenNMS, Zabix, Zenoss, Groundworks, Hyperic and different others are showing up in the market. Do you want lightweight, or feature full, how far do you want to go with your monitoring, just on os level, or do you want to dig into your applications, do you want to know how many query per seconds your MySQL database is serving, or do you want to know about the internal state of your JBoss, or be triggered if the OOM killer will start working soon. This presentation will guide the audience trough the different alternatives, based on our experiences in the field. We will be looking both at alerting and trending and how easy or difficult it is to deploy such an environment.

Introduction to Infrastructure as Code & Automation / Introduction to ChefNathen Harvey
Your customers expect you to continuously deliver delightful experiences. This means that you’ll need to continuously deliver application and infrastructure updates. Hand-crafted servers lovingly built and maintained by a system administrator are a thing of the past. Golden images are fine for initial provisioning but will quickly fail as your configuration requirements change over time.
It’s time for you to fully automate the provisioning and management of your infrastructure components. Welcome to the world of infrastructure as code! In this new world, you’ll be able to programmatically provision and configure the components of your infrastructure.
Disposable infrastructure whose provisioning, configuration, and on-going maintenance is fully automated allow you to change the way you build and deliver applications. Move your applications and infrastructure towards continuous delivery.
In this talk, we’ll explore the ideas behind “infrastructure as code” and, specifically, look at how Chef allows you to fully automate your infrastructure. If you’re brave enough, we’ll even let you get your hands on some Chef and experience the delight of using Chef to build and deploy some infrastructure components.

DevOps, Continuous Integration and Deployment on AWS: Putting Money Back into...Amazon Web Services
Organizations around the globe are leveraging the cloud to accomplish world-changing missions. This session will address how AWS can help organizations put more money toward their mission and scale outreach and operations to achieve more with less. Hear some of AWS’s most advanced customers on how their organizations handle DevOps, continuous integration and deployment. Learn how these practices allow them to rapidly develop, iterate, test and deploy highly-scalable web applications and core operational systems on AWS. The discussion will focus on best practices, lessons learned, and the specific technologies and services they use.
This presentation shall address the web2py web framework, my favorite way to develop web apps.
web2py is a free, open-source web framework for agile development of secure database-driven web applications; it is written in Python and programmable in Python. web2py is a full-stack framework, meaning that it contains all the components you need to build fully functional web applications.
Ease of use is the primary goal for web2py. For us, this means reducing the learning and deployment time. This is why web2py is a full-stack framework without dependencies. It requires no installation and has no configuration files. Everything works out of the box, including a web server, database and a web-based IDE that gives access to all the main features.
I will show you why web2py can make you more productive by bringing the result of a reflection over the best ideas of the most popular MVC based web frameworks enforcing the best practices for a fast, scalable and secure web application with minimal effort. There will be a live demo where you can get a faster grasp on how does it work and how fun it can be.

From a student to an apache committer practice of apache io tdbjixuan1989
This talk is introduce by Xiangdong Huang, who is a PPMC of Apache IoTDB (incubating) project, at Apache Event at Tsinghua University in China.
About the Event:
The open source ecosystem plays more and more important role in the world. Open source software is widely used in operating systems, cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, and industrial Internet. Many companies have gradually increased their participation in the open source community. Developers with open source experience are increasingly valued and favored by large enterprises. The Apache Software Foundation is one of the most important open source communities, contributing a large number of valuable open source software and communities to the world.
The invited guests of this lecture are all from ASF community, including the chairman of the Apache Software Foundation, three Apache members, Top 5 Apache code committers (according to Apache annual report), the first Committer in the Hadoop project in China, several Apache project mentors or VPs, and many Apache Committers. They will tell you what the open source culture is, how to join the Apache open source community, and the Apache Way.
The wireless network monitoring data are abundant, as it seems relevant store information from devices and users connected, especially in an multicampus environment like Unesp. In this sense, the database tends to increase rapidly the number of records, being necessary to optimize the periodic cleaning routine of Zabbix data. Here are our way of improving the functioning of the "housekeeping" native application. Also will demonstrate the massive use of the data type "Zabbix Trapper" for flexible the list of informations of Wi-Fi infrastructure and techniques varied use of "low level discovery" for monitoring of wireless access points.
Zabbix Conference LatAm 2016 - Andre Deo - Zabbix Brazil CommunityZabbix
In 2008 Brazil hadn't any community about Zabbix, and the software was not known to most people. What changed in 8 years? How a community initiated by one single man (like in Japan) made the difference? Currently this community has more than 3.000 members, many lectures at local events, articles in magazines, books, many blogs and member involved in building additional functions for Zabbix and translation of official documentation!
The aim of the lecture is the demonstration of the new Low Level Discovery Resources that emerged in Zabbix 3.0, as well as presentation, operation and demonstration LLD settings of Windows and ODBC Services.
Zabbix Conference LatAm 2016 - Andre Deo - SNMP and ZabbixZabbix
The aim of the lecture is to discuss the main questions people have when using SNMP with Zabbix. Will present an overview of SNMP, MIBs, Net-SNMP and items used in Zabbix templates.
Zabbix Conference LatAm 2016 - Rodrigo Mohr - Challenges on Large Env with Or...Zabbix
Scalability on a large environment can be a challenge on many different aspects involving customization of monitors, performance and reporting. The goal of this presentation is to share the experience we had at Dell, monitoring a big number of servers in an environment with constant changes, lots of custom monitors and new servers configured every week. We will present, from our 3 years of experience with Zabbix and Oracle, which positive/negative aspects we have taken from the configuration parameters we used, involving strong use of User Macros, optimization of Database Queries, Table Partitioning and Automation.
The Lojas Renner has always had a close proximity to the Open Source movement in Brazil. Still in the 90s, all the company's POS solutions have been migrated to Linux and in early 2000, migration started in all the company's systems, including the main components of critical infrastructure. Since then, much has changed. The world scene Open Source has become a worldwide standard for all products and companies, making its adoption not only an innovation but a necessity. Understand how since 2008 Zabbix helps us in monitoring the entire IT infrastructure, remote units and our business processes.
Zabbix Conference LatAm 2016 - Filipe Paternot - Zbx@Globo Automation+Integra...Zabbix
Zabbix API offers us a lot of power and possibilities. We will talk about automation and integrations at scale, at Globo.com. Automating gives us power to clone instances of Zabbix, perform batch operations, manage MANY networks for discovery and more. We will present our layer of abstraction to API, democratizing API access, offering a nice UI and standards for every new service monitored and few cached responses. Also, we will show how we have integrated with CloudStack, to deliver automated private cloud monitoring into Zabbix.
Zabbix Conference LatAm 2016 - Douglas Esteves - Zabbix at UNICAMPZabbix
Present the Zabbix use case in the Computer Center of UNICAMP, excellent option for monitoring Datacenter Environments and the University Environment. Presentation of the use of the tool at UNICAMP with simple monitoring and case of IT Service Monitoring to measure Server Availability and Database.
Rafael Martinez Guerrero - Zabbix at the University of Oslo | ZabConf2016Zabbix
A case study showing the problems we have resolved with Zabbix and the challenges we had when we implemented Zabbix as the main monitoring tool at the University of Oslo. The number of challenges is not low in an organization as heterogenous as ours, with many thousands of servers and clients, all kinds of devices connected to our infrastructure, different operating systems, multiple locations and hundreds of IT staff. Full automation and delegation of privileges are the key words in the work we have done during the past year and a half.
Wolfgang Alper - Zabbix Meets OPS Control / Rundeck | ZabConf2016Zabbix
Zabbix is an excellent tool to do network monitoring and to alert if something bad happens. But Zabbix can do more. An underestimated feature of Zabbix is its ability to perform actions in addition to simple notifications. However, this requires to precisly setup those actions within zabbix, which is not always an easy task and might duplicate existing work. So what if Zabbix actually worked in concert with an external taskrunner / jobscheduler that is build to do exactly this: run a task or action against a host and report its outcome? Zabbix would perform the same well defined steps that an ops member would perform in case of certain failures using this kind of tool. A well know example of this kind of software is "Rundeck" which is licensed under the Apache License Version 2.0.

Sumit Goel - Monitoring Cloud Applications Using Zabbix | ZabConf2016Zabbix
With global shift towards flexibility of cloud there are different demands on monitoring availability and performance of applications provided in the cloud. There are obvious limitations in accessing components of app hosted by third party run outside of internal environment. Same time there are opportunities of using vendor API and status page. In Salesforce, one of the most innovative company in the world by Forbes and one of the biggest cloud service provider, we understand the need of customer to be able to see in real time availability and performance of cloud application. In the following presentation we're going to list and describe multiple ways of monitoring cloud apps. Some of the methods are: building in web monitoring using Curl, web browser automation tools like Selenium, external scripts (reading vendor status dashboard) and API calls to the app.
Rihards Olups - Zabbix at Nokia - Case StudyZabbix
We will explore a fairly complicated Zabbix environment at one division in Nokia. Having several different Zabbix versions in use and a lot of custom products monitored, it is a place one can get lost in easily. We'll discuss JMX monitoring, approaches to keep notification configuration simple and notifications useful, different usecases for the Zabbix API and a lot of other topics. The importance of the SSL compliance will be covered along with some of the many ways custom solutions are monitored.
Raymond Kuiper - Zen and The Art of Zabbix Template Design | ZabConf2016Zabbix
Zabbix monitoring solution can help bring balance to your organisation's IT landscape. However, the success greatly depends on the templates you use to setup your monitoring system. As any Zabbix veteran will tell you, the default templates don't really suffice for any setup other than a proof-of-concept. How then do you set about creating your own templates? Following practical examples, we'll discuss some of the design decisions that need to be made to achieve template perfection.

Lukáš Malý - Log management ELISA controlled by Zabbix | ZabConf2016Zabbix
Datasys ELISA log management is robust, powerful, yet inexpensive solution for collection, correlation and analysis of logs. Core system consists of the Elasticsearch “noSQL“ database and the web user interface Kibana, which provides high comfort for analysis of detected security incidents and relevant logs. It is common that the database ElasticSearch is distributed to multiple servers to achieve load balancing and high availability of indexed data. ELISA heavily utilizes ZABBIX for user authentication and role based access control, notifications and self-monitoring. Elasticsearch Indices can be managed right in ZABBIX Frontend. ZABBIX "trapper" items and monitoring templates are used to centrally manage configuration of distributed environment of NXlog agents. Agents are capable to securely auto-register as ZABBIX "hosts".

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

+ Easy to start writing bad code
+ Available on most platforms
+ Actively developed recently
- Dynamic typing
- Discipline is a must for good code
- Interpreted: errors during code
execution
10. SQL back-end
+ MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2, SQLite
+ Transactions and data integrity
+ Standart API: SQL
+ Easy to deploy
- Scalability
- High availability and redundancy
12. Architecture: what’s good
Separation of logic: data collection, problem
detection, notifications, visualisation, API, etc
Multiprocess application: uses all available CPU
cores
Data is always in consistent state
15. 2015, any changes?
• Languages: no changes - C, PHP
• Much stricter development work-flow
Specification, development, code review, testing,
documentation, ready to ship
Coding guidelines
• Continuous integration
• Static analysers and commit hooks
16. Current challenges
• Different stack of technologies for back-end and front-
end
Team members with different skill set
• Speed of development
• Older historical code in PHP
30. Interface: under the hood
• Modularity, MVC
• Ability to create your own pages
• Ability to extend existing pages
• First attempts to create API for dashboard widgets
31. Encryption and
authentication

36. Versioning for XML
• Versions for XML files
• Strong validation
• Backward compatibility
• Automatic conversion from older versions
XML 2.2 XML 2.4 XML 3.0
37. Context specific macros
{$MACRO:context], if does not exist we use value of {$MACRO}
Example
{$MINDISKSPACE:/tmp] => 50%
{$MINDISKSPACE:/db] => 30%
{$MINDISKSPACE} = 10%
Not enough disk space
{host:vfs.fs.size[{#FSNAME},pfree].last()} < {$MINDISKSPACE:{#FSNAME}}
{host:vfs.fs.size[“/home”,pfree].last()} < {$MINDISKSPACE:/home}
38. “Ready for business”
checks
Checks at a specific time:
every 2 hours starting from 9:00 (9:00, 11:00 …)
every hour hh:00 и hh:30
working days only at 9:00
working days every hour at 9:00,10:00,…,18:00
at first day of every month at 9:30
at first day of every month at 9:30 if it’s Monday
40. Low level discovery based
on SQL queries
Retrieve data from external database
select field1,field2,field3 from table where …
Use it to create new items, triggers, graphs
{#FIELD1}, {#FIELD2}, {#FIELD3}
41. Also
• Support of dependencies for trigger prototypes
• Support of IPv6 for Java gateway
• Triggers Top 100, filleting by: host, host group, severity and custom time
period
• Support of TCP for DNS checks
• Discovery of any number of SNMP LLD values
ifDescr, ifOutOctets, ifInOctets using one query from different SNMP tables
• Dropdowns replaced by buttons for mass-actions
• Support of LLD macros in units and IMPI sensors
44. WEB interface: facts
• Existing navigation is no good: menu!
• Too many clicks for standard actions
“Click till death”, Lukas, Zabbix Conference 2014
• Information is not well inter-connected
Monitoring/Administration is strictly separated
• Drop downs: consume too much memory and CPU
45. WEB interface: make it better
• Improve user experience
• Object-oriented navigation
Choose host → All information about selected host
is one-click away
• Information should be interconnected
• Improve performance (depends on performance of
API)
46. API: facts
• Can be very slow
• Generates too much queries to the database
• No strong validation
• Poor error reporting
47. API: faster and more reliable
• Make it 10-100x faster
More efficient algorithms
Bulk operations and caching
• Make API first class citizen: possible move to Zabbix
Server side
That’s where we have the most efficient code
• Strong validation
• Detailed error reporting
48. Reports: facts
So much data in the database but:
• Poor reporting
• No analytics
• No way to create your own reports
• No way to remember report parameters for easy re-
use
50. Scalability: facts
• Zabbix becomes significantly slower as data
volume grows
• Requires special techniques for scalability (table
partitioning)
• HA and redundancy is not trivial
51. Scalability: terrabytes!
• Horizontal scalability for data storage
Standard SQL engine cannot deliver it
• Separate storage for historical data
• New distributed monitoring
• Performance of the interface is important, sub-
second response time
52. API and plugins: facts
Currently can be used only for extending agent- and
server-side checks, notification methods.
It is not enough!
53. API and plugins
Support whenever possible
• New trigger functions
• Pre- and post-processing of data
• Dashboard widgets
• and more!
