The mayor of Invercargill is Timothy Richard Shadbolt, who won election in 2010. Invercargill is the southernmost city in New Zealand and one of the southernmost cities in the world, and is known for its dairy industry producing milk, cheese, and butter. It also has a meat processing industry. Many of the street names in Invercargill are named after places in Great Britain, particularly Scotland. The Southern Institute of Technology, which offers zero-fee education, is located in Invercargill.
