Maria Island is a national park located off the east coast of Tasmania accessible only by ferry. It has no shops, running water, or hot water. The island contains wildlife like wombats and kangaroos and scenic areas including historic ruins and cliffs. During summer and Easter, 120-200 tourists visit per night, accommodating in basic camping grounds or old prisoner barracks. The Parks and Wildlife Service of Tasmania manages the island to protect wildlife, with only ranger vehicles allowed.
