Wonder why social media is suddenly such a hot commodity? Wish you knew how the most popular platforms worked, and what kinds of communities they created? Curious about how you can use social media for business, or even in an Advanced Writing classroom? You're in the right place.
The internet is often considered one of the greatest inventions ever. Because it is.
However, it's not so great that it should be left to its own devices, or to ours—even if those devices seem sleek, shiny and awfully smart. At its worst, the web can be a force of dehumanization, making us less than fully human.
In this talk, Will Gray offers five thoughts that can help to reorient how we think about the web and technology in general, and especially how we think about creating in these spaces. He even suggests that our work (and play) on the web can be a force for rehumanizing our world.

The document discusses different approaches to reading T.S. Eliot's modernist poem "The Waste Land". It begins by noting the barriers to reading the poem, such as the fragmentation, foreign languages and confusing structure. It then outlines a three part approach to reading: discovery of initial thoughts; uncovering the method by exploring the poem's origins, sources and composition; and achieving recovery by piecing together the fragments and themes. Key influences and allusions are examined, such as myths, rituals, Dante, Shakespeare, and the search for meaning and transformation in the disillusioned post-WWI landscape. In the end, the document notes how the poem reflects the wounds in human connection with nature and each other,

At the College of Emporia, traditions included freshman girls drinking from "bottles" and face painting, as well as documenting traditions through pictures and the annual Allah Rah log. Emporia State University also had traditions but did not document them as well. Both colleges required freshman to wear beanies, and those without could face "paddle court" punishment. Traditions also included events like ESU's Curli-Q variety show and the College of Emporia's Scrap Day competitions for freshman.
