LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN
The Lady Chaps enter the weekend with
an overall record of 39-11 with a 16-5 mark
in Heartland Conference play following a
league sweep of Texas A&M-International last
weekend in Lubbock.
Lubbock Christian is led by fifth year head
coach Daren Hays who has compiled an
overall record of 214-40 during his time in
Lubbock.
The Lady Chaps are led offensively by Morgan
Colburn who is hitting .403 this season with 14
doubles and a Nation’s best 22 homeruns to
drive in 62 RBI. In the circle, LCU is led by Katlyn
Holmes who is 17-4 on the season with a 2.49
ERA with 11 complete games and four shutouts
to go along with 58 strikeouts in her 123.2
innings of work so far this season.
LCU is hitting .340 as a team to go along with
84 doubles, nine triples, 71 homeruns and 361
RBI for a team slugging percentage of .568 with
67 combined errors for a fielding clip of .953. In
the circle, LCU has a 2.81 combined ERA with
32 complete games and 224 strikeouts in 324.0
innings with an opposing batting average of
.252.
NFCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (APR. 13)
The newly crowned Lone Star Conference
Champion Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M
remained number two in the newest
National Fastpitch Coaches Association
(NFCA) Division II Top-25 Poll announced on
Wednesday morning by the association’s
offices in Louisville, Kentucky.
The University of Indianapolis remain atop of
the poll with 12 of the possible 16 first place
votes for a total of 396 points followed by the
Lady Buffs with the final four first place votes
(388), Humboldt State (363), Saint Leo (354),
North Alabama (329), North Georgia (321),
Arkansas Tech (300), Missouri-St. Louis (295),
Cal Baptist (273), and Cal Pa. (248) to round
out the top ten. The South Central Region
was represented by WT, St. Mary’s (11th),
Colorado Mesa (23rd) and Cameron (RV).
3-PEAT
The #2 Lady Buffs claimed their third straight
Lone Star Conference title as they outscored
the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico,
40-8 in a Senior Weekend series sweep at
Schaeffer Park to move WT to 44-2 (26-2 LSC).
The Lady Buffs became the third team in
LSC history to win three straight titles along
with Southeastern Oklahoma (1999-01) and
Angelo State (2008-10).
WT has earned the right to host the Lone Star
Conference Championship on April 29-30,
they will be the top seed in the event and
receive a bye in the quarterfinal round and
play the winner of the 4/5 seed game in the
semifinals on Friday night at a time to be
determined.
NATIONALLY SPEAKING (APR. 14)
The Lady Buffs have the nation’s best offense
with a .375 team batting average while
leading the nation with 2.40 doubles per
game, a .477 on base percentage while
scoring 8.94 runs per contest.
– WT ranks first in slugging percentage (.639)
while coming in fith with 1.34 homeruns
per game and ranking fourth in win/loss
percentage at .957.
– Senior Stacey Ramirez ranks 37th in the
country in batting average (.442) and ninth
in runs per game (1.19). Fellow senior Tori
Bayer leads Division II in saves this season with
nine while Lacey Taylor ranks seventh in on-
base percentage (.558) and seventh in walks
per game (0.79).
– Sophomore outfielder Ashley Hardin leads
the Lady Buffs with 14 home runs which ranks
11th in the nation. WT has four players in the
Top-50 in RBI this season with Hardin (6th, 54),
Brittany Cruz (7th, 54), Taylor (22nd, 47) and
Shea Ibrahim (35th, 44).

WT senior right hander Tori Bayer set a brand new
Lone Star Conference single season record for
saves against her former team last Wednesday
night as the #2 Lady Buffs started past and outlast-
ed the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian, 13-6 in
front of over 350 fans at Schaeffer Park in Canyon
on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night. The Lady Buffs
move to 45-2 overall including 27-1 at home in their
final regular season home game while LCU falls to
36-11.
TRADITION NEVER GRADUATES
The Lady Buffs return nine letter-winners from last
season’s LSC Championship team that registered
an overall record of 45-11, All-American selec-
tions Lacey Taylor, Stacey Ramirez and Allie Smith
highlight the talented returning group that have led
WT to back-to-back LSC Titles. Taylor and Ramirez
are joined by Brittany Gehle, Tori Bayer and Andrea
Sitter for a senior class that looks to become the
winningest in program history as they have reg-
istered a 149-31 (82.8%) mark over the last three
seasons in Canyon.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Lady Buffs have turned Schaeffer Park in
Canyon into one of the top home environments in
all of NCAA Division II Softball. WT is 168-27 (.860) at
Schaeffer Park since the facility opened prior to the
2011 season including 71-13 (.845) during regular
season Lone Star Conference games in Canyon.
2015 marked the fourth time in the last five years
(‘11, ‘13, ‘14, ‘15) that the Lady Buffs hosted NCAA
Postseason action in Canyon.

MAKING HISTORY
The Lady Buffs became the fastest team in Division II to
reach the 40-win plateau this season while becoming
just be 19th team in Division II History to register a win
streak of atleast 30 games as they are tied for 10th
with Sacred Heart (1990) and Kennesaw State (1999).
The 30-game win streak is the longest in Lone Star
Conference history and the longest ever in the current
South Central Region (Lone Star, Heartland, RMAC).

2016 LSC LEADERS (APR. 18)

Having been hired to re-start West Texas A&M softball
following a 24-year absence, Kevin Blaskowski has wast-
ed little time in building the Lady Buffs into a perennial
national title contender. In 10 years at the helm, he has
registered a 365-230 mark, recorded five NCAA tournament berths and an
overall record of 717-507 over 23 seasons. While at WT, Blaskowski has claimed
three Lone Star Conference title, two LSC Tournament Title, two South Central
Regional Championships, a South Central Super Regional Title and the 2014
NCAA Division II National Championship.
The Lady Buffs continued their dominance in 2015 as Blaskowski led the
program to their second straight and third overall Lone Star Conference
Championship as they finished the season 45-11 with a 22-6 mark in LSC play.
WT made national news during the 2015 season, remaining the top team in
the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top-25 Poll for a
record 56-straight weeks (2/26/14 - 3/25/15). WT led the nation in four offensive
statustical categories during the 2015 season while also hitting 102 homeruns to
become the first team in Division II history to reach the century mark in back-
to-back years after hitting 105 bombs in 2014. Senior outfielder Renee Erwin
concluded her incredible collegiate career in style as the Anna, Texas native
became the first player in history to be named a back-to-back winner of the
Daktronics Ron Lenz National Player of the Year award.
2014 saw the Lady Buffs capture the program’s first ever NCAA Division II
National Championship as WT topped perennial power Valdosta State in a
Memorial Day thriller at the Moyers Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia. The Lady
Buffs finished their dream season with an overall record of 60-7, becoming just
the fourth team in NCAA history to win a title while also reaching the 60-win
mark (Cal State Northridge-1985; Augustana-1991; North Dakota State-2000).
Blaskowski and his staff were rewarded for their efforts on the diamond, being
named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II National
Coaching Staff of the Year while Coach B also picked up Lone Star Confer-
ence Coach of the Year accolades.
Coach B reached another career milestone in 2013 as he claimed his
600th career victory against St. Edward’s in Austin, Texas on April 14th. The 2012
season saw the Lady Buffs make another appearance in the LSC Tournament
before falling to rival Angelo State in the semifinal round, WT just missed out
on the NCAA Postseason, finishing the season with an overall record of 35-18.
Blaskowski reached a personal milestone on February 19, 2012 as he coached
his 1,000th career game in a win over New Mexico Highlands in Canyon.
The 2011 season saw the Lady Buffs make a historic run to their first ever
South Central Regional Championship as they finished the season with an
overall record of 50-18. WT claimed the program’s first ever Lone Star Confer-
ence Tournament Championship in 2011. Blaskowski also reached a personal
milestone in 2011, claiming his 500th career victory on March 5 in a 15-2 win
over Eastern New Mexico at Lady Buff Yard in Canyon, the win was also special
for WT’s centerfielder Kim LeComte who hit for the first cycle in program history.
The Lady Buffs finished the 2010 season with a 45-18 overall record and ad-
vanced to the NCAA South Central Region Finals. Blaskowski was honored as
the Lone Star Conference South Division Coach of the Year.
Blaskowski was hired in December of 2004 to bring back the softball
program to WTAMU’s campus after a 24 year absence. Blaskowski came to
WT from Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico University where he
served as the head coach for one year. Prior to ENMU, Blaskowski coached
at Southern Arkansas University for five years, where he started the SAU softball
program and led them to the postseason in each of his five years. In 2003, SAU
was the Co-Champion of the West Division in the Gulf South Conference with
a 31-19 overall record and a 19-4
conference mark. While at SAU,
Blaskowski served as a member of
the NCAA Division II South Region
rating committee in addition to
being named Gulf South Confer-
ence Co-Coach of the Year in
2000.
Blaskowski also has served as
the head coach at Phillips Univer-
sity from 1996-1998. He started the
program at Phillips which qualified
for postseason play in each of its
two seasons before the school
closed in 1998. He was also the
head coach at Washburn Univer-
sity in Topeka, Kan., and Kansas
Wesleyan University, in Salina, Kan.
Blaskowski received a Bachelor
of Science in Education with a
major in Physical Education from
Valley City State University in North
Dakota in 1986. He completed a
Master of Science in Education
with an emphasis in Health, Physi-
cal Education and Recreation at
Emporia State University in Kansas
in 1989.
Blaskowski and his beautiful
wife, April, are the parents of two
daughters, Kaelyn Rose and Kelsey
Rhea.
