The booklet is noted to be a first edition and may contain some mistakes.
This document provides a summary of a research report conducted in Tandika ward, Temeke assessing the role of guidance and counseling for students in public secondary schools. The report includes 5 chapters that discuss the background, methodology, analysis of findings, and conclusions. It acknowledges those who contributed to the research and declares the work as the student's original research conducted to fulfill the requirements for a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. Globally, guidance and counseling has historically played an important role in education systems, though practices vary between countries. In Africa traditionally, communities provided guidance and counseling through extended families and initiation ceremonies to socialize youth. Now many African countries recognize the importance of formal guidance in schools.

Education aims to develop human qualities and prepare students for life. It should involve learning from both teachers and personal exploration. An ideal education system teaches applicable skills and connects students to career opportunities. It was proposed that future education could incorporate online learning platforms where students watch videos and demonstrations from teachers to learn efficiently at their own pace while still having support and assessments. However, such a system may lack social interaction, so a balance is needed. Overall, education should provide both theoretical knowledge and practical life skills to benefit students.
This document discusses the extent to which education can overcome social inequality. It argues that while education aims to provide equal opportunities, in practice it often reproduces existing social inequalities. Students from privileged backgrounds have an easier time maintaining their status, while working-class students tend to remain working-class. Teachers also tend to assume students come from middle-class backgrounds and value middle-class experiences. As a result, working-class students find it harder to succeed academically. No matter their abilities, students from poor families have little chance of success compared to middle- and upper-class students.

Review several of your classmates’ posts and respond to at least two classmates. Offer an additional example of how development of the age groups your classmates selected influence curriculum decisions.
Student 1: Tracie:
The age group I chose is 3-5 years of age. The physical development of children in this age group is movement and coordination which can also influence the curriculum. During this time, children’s’ brains are like sponges. They are watching and learning everything in their environment. This age group brings a “wide variety of experiences to the preschool setting, which should serve to inform curricular decisions (Jaruszewicz, 2013). The social and emotional aspect of this age group is that of caring, understanding and many more. Three to five-year old’s need the aptness to proceed around and we as teachers should promote physical development. A great way of doing this is consistently doing active play inside and also outside of the classroom. Teachers should label bins and shelves that have objects such as toys and the areas they are playing/ working in. The children will be able to independently pick them up and return them as they play. Incorporate games in the curriculum that lets them move free and easily within the game.
Cognitive aspect of a 3-5-year-old is that their brain functions are learning things on a daily base to help the child. In the newsletter by Paraskevopoulou it was written: “Curriculums that include topics such as appropriate scheduling, creating a developmentally appropriate classroom, and making the most of learning centers, will help create a classroom environment that actively engages the child and keeps his or her attention. When implemented in the classroom, these components contribute to less discipline problems and a smoother day” (Paraskevopoulou, F, (2008).
The key to successful learning, especially for children ages 3-5, you must have a classroom environment that’s design especially for them. The environment should be one where they able to move around freely with no obstacles in their way. The curriculum must be on the preschool level for the students to understand.

Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).
AI Trends in Creative Operations 2024 by Artwork Flow.pdfmarketingartwork
Creative operations teams expect increased AI use in 2024. Currently, over half of tasks are not AI-enabled, but this is expected to decrease in the coming year. ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool currently. Business leaders are more actively exploring AI benefits than individual contributors. Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.
Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.

Topic 1: What are the characteristics of a good teacher? Give reasons to support your idea.
(Reasons: knowledge & convey the meaning – behavior)
No one can ever deny the significance of teachers in every system of education, as they are
basically responsible for educating the future generations. Needless to say, teachers should
have a number of specific characteristics in order to do their duties in the best possible
way. In this essay, we plan to examine the most important qualities which enables a
teacher to do his/her job properly.
First and foremost, the ability to teach properly is basically one of the most significant
characteristics of every teacher, which is because the lack of this ability may contribute to
many significant problems in the process of students learning. In this regard, a good
teacher should not only have a reasonable level of knowledge in the course which he/she is
teaching, but he/she should also have the ability to convey the subject to the students very
well. In many cases, the teacher’s performance has been regarded as far from satisfactory
not because of poor knowledge, but because of the inability to make the students
understand the materials.

Topic 2: How do you relieve stress in your life? Give reasons and examples to support your
response.
(Reasons: having hobbies – travelling – some medical activities: drinking cold water, deep breath)
Stress and stress-related diseases are basically regarded as an indispensible part of human
life in modern societies, resulting from the characteristics of life in the industrialized
world. This problem may contribute to more serious mental disorders if it is not tackled
properly, which makes it necessary for people to take a number of actions in order to
control their stress. In this essay, we intend to examine a number of ways which, in my
point of view, can lead to (result in) less stress in human life.
In the first place, it should be noted that having a suitable hobby can play a very
significant role in reducing stress and tension in one’s life, which is mainly because such
an activity would often distract the attention of the person from the factors which cause
stress to other areas. As an illustration, consider the effects of listening to music on one’s
mental health. According to most psychologists, the people who listen to music on a
permanent basis are far less likely to suffer from stress and similar mental disorders.
Likewise (in the same way, by the same token), doing a sport, reading books and joining
a club can result in the reduction of stress in one’s life.

Topic 3: People work for many reasons. Making money is one reason for working. What
other reasons do you think people work for?
(Reasons: fulfill social and personal needs – use our skills and abilities – success at work may
compensate for failure in other aspects of life)(Compensate for = )ﺧﻨﺜﯽ ﮐﺮدن
No one can ever deny the significance of work in human life, as it makes the person have
financial independence and, more importantly, a social position. While earning money is
generally regarded as a very significant driving force of working, it would be wrong to
assume that people choose to work in the society only in order to improve their financial
condition. Indeed, I am of the opinion that working can have a wide range of positive
effects on ones’ mental health.
First and foremost, work is regarded as one of the most important needs of human kind
because this activity makes it possible for him/her to fulfill a number of personal and social
needs in the society. Human beings, for example, need to be seen and respected by other
people, a social need, which contributes to a feeling of self confidence and self satisfaction
in the course of time, a personal need. Having a job may create the circumstances under
which these mental needs are fulfilled properly, which illustrates what a significant role
work plays in human life.

Topic 4: women are not able to have a successful social position and, at the same time,
raise their family properly. How far do you agree? Give reasons and examples to support
your response. (BE OPENMINDED) ** Technical **
(Reasons: if women, who go to university, don’t work, waste time and money – it is wrong to
believe that raising the family is the duty of women – social role helps women raise their family
better)
Over the past few decades, women have played a very significant social role in many
countries of the world. Today, we can see women in the highest ranks of specialty and
management in developed countries. The social phenomenon may have raised a number of
concerns among those who believe that the social responsibilities of women would prevent
them from doing their duties to their family. However, I hold the view that it would be
wrong to ignore the potential of women as half of the active work force in every society, as
it will contribute to very significant problems for the society in general and women in
particular.
To begin with, the significance increase in the number of women who receive higher
education makes it necessary to give some social responsibilities to women. By way of
illustration, it should be noted that girls account for a considerable proportion of
university students receiving academic education in many countries of the world.
Considering the fact that tertiary education imposes a very heavy financial burden on the
state, it would be nothing but waste of time, money and resources to deprive women of
social responsibilities, as it means eliminating half of the educated workforce in the
country.

Topic 5: University should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every
major. How far do you agree?!(DISAGREEMENT)
(Reasons: some majors are suitable for men and some are suitable for women – those majors in
which the equal number of male and female students can participate must be based on competition)
No one can ever deny that in a civilized society, every person should have the opportunity
to improve in different aspects of life, regardless of his/her race, religion and, most
importantly, gender. This fact, however, may give rise to an assumption that universities
should accept equal numbers of male and female students in order to provide similar
educational facilities for both genders. In my point of view, a wide range of different
factors can determine the proportion of male and female students in different university
majors, which makes it necessary for university authorities to consider different aspects
when they decide on how to allocate different majors to boys and girls.
To begin with, it should be considered that a number of university majors are more suitable
for one gender than the other one, which is mainly because of the natural differences
between men and women. Male students, for example, have proven to be more successful
in the majors which involve practical skills, such as civil engineering, architecture and
general surgery. Female students, on the other hand, are far more successful in the majors
in which feelings and emotions come first including teaching small children, nursing and
some arts. Under such circumstances, it wouldn’t seem sensible to insist on accepting the
same number of male and female students in every major.

Topic 6: Parents are the best teachers. How far do you agree?! (AGREEMENT)
(Reasons: they pass their first years of life with their parents and the speed of learning in those
years is very high – they are together for a long time–they like to have the same pattern as parents)
Needless to say, parents play a very significant, if not the most significant, role in one’s
life, as their method of treatment would often have long-term effects on their children.
While I would not deny the importance of school teachers and academic education, I hold
the view that ones’ behavior is affected by his/her parents more than any other factor,
which means parents are the best teachers.
…
The last but not the least, children are affected by their parents more than any other teacher
mainly because parents are the most outstanding role models in human life. According to
many psychologists, children and teenagers imitate the behavior of their parents
automatically, an imitation which may even happen unintentionally. As a consequence, the
manners, ways of speech and even gestures and facial expressions of parents are
transferred to their children, which illustrates the significance educational role of parents in
our life.

Topic 7_1: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?!
Face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication, such as letters, e-
mail, or telephone calls. (AGREEMENT)
The significant developments in technology have made it possible for human kind to
communicate in a wide range of different ways, such as email, text messages and
telephone, which have been added to more conventional methods of communication like
sending letters. While it may seem that such advances have reduced the importance and
necessity of face to face communication, I am of the opinion that this natural method of
communicating with other people has a number of characteristics which are rarely, if not
never, found in other ways of communication.

Topic 7_2: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?!
Face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication, such as letters, e-
mail, or telephone calls. (AGREEMENT)
(Reasons: convey not only words, but also feelings and emotions – it can prevent misunderstanding
– fulfill the mental needs)
According to psychologists, human communication is basically a very complex
phenomenon which is affected by a wide range of different factors. Face to face
communication, as the most natural and frequent method of communicating with others,
has a number of significant characteristics which enable human kind to convey not only
words, but also feelings, emotions and attitudes. In my point of view, such a quality is
almost never found in other ways of communication, which makes it far better than the
other methods.
…
Furthermore, face to face communication includes a number of tools, such as gestures,
facial expressions and the tone of voice, which help the speaker convey the exact meaning
precisely without running the risk of causing misunderstanding in the speech. Such tools
are rarely found in other methods of communication, especially modern ones like e-mail
and text messages. As a consequence, those people who communicate with each other face
to face are far less likely to misunderstand each other, which is basically regarded as one of
the most significance advantages of this way of communication.

Topic 8: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?!
One should never judge a person by external appearances. (AGREEMENT)
It is generally accepted that our impressions of other people are formed by their
appearance, way of speaking and, in the course of time, behavior. While one’s appearance
plays a very important role in social contacts, I hold the view that it would be wrong to
judge other people only by external appearances, as the complex nature of human kind
should often make such judgments unreliable, superficial and misleading.

Topic 9: Argument:
Study alone / study with other people
Discuss both views.
No one can ever rule out the significance of a proper method of studying in ones’ success.
However, there seems to be very little agreement about the best way to study. While some
people prefer to focus on their studies alone, others find it more sensible to form study
groups and revise their lessons with their classmates. Needless to say, both groups have
their own arguments.

Topic 10: Some people believe that the earth is being damaged by human activity. Others
feel that human activity makes the earth a better place to live. What is your opinion?!
Throughout history, human kind has made very significant changes on the earth in order to
customize this place according to his/her needs, interests and ideals. Today, however,
there seem to be a wide range of different, and sometimes opposite, points of view about
the interference of human kind in the nature…

Topic 11: Argument: Capital punishment (Adv. and Disadv.)
Throughout history, capital punishment has been regarded as one of the most common
methods of punishment in almost all parts of the world. Today, however, there seem to be
very different attitudes to this method of punishment. While death penalty has been
abolished in many developed countries, there are a certain number of (few) countries
which still apply capital punishment on a regular basis, mainly in order to maintain security
in their societies.
14. Gathered by: Farhad Varzandeh Page 13
Topic 12: Argument: CC TVs and Cameras in public places? (Adv. and Disadv.)
The increasing rate of crime in human societies has made it necessary for governments to
take a number of preventive actions in order to tackle this problem, one of which is the
application of closed circuit cameras in public places.
This course of action, however, has provoked a great deal of controversy in many countries
of the world. While, many politicians and security officials are in favor of this action,
many human rights communities and citizens are bitterly opposed to this policy, describing
it as intrusive and restrictive. This essay is intended to examine both views and reach a
sensible conclusion.
