A US Forest Service worker in Alaska shot and killed an unusually large grizzly bear that charged him while he was deer hunting. The bear weighed over 1,600 pounds and was the largest grizzly bear on record. An investigation revealed the bear had killed at least two people in the previous 72 hours, including a hiker who had fired multiple shots at the bear from his handgun before being killed. The bear's body contained bullets from both the hiker's gun and the rifle of the Forest Service worker who ultimately killed the bear.
