This document discusses a study exploring workforce attachment among social workers in the veteran healthcare sector. It summarizes that prior research has identified factors related to workforce attachment like job satisfaction and retention, but not attachment itself. The study used interviews with 13 social workers to identify three types of workforce attachment: secure, insecure-anxious, and insecure-ambivalent. Aspects of the relational context like relationships with colleagues, and the social and physical contexts like organizational culture and policies, were found to enhance or diminish feelings of workforce attachment security. The document concludes that conceptualizing worker behavior through the lens of workforce attachment theory could provide insights for research and practice.
