Prenda Law, a porn trolling law firm, issued a subpoena to Automattic, the parent company of WordPress, seeking IP address information of visitors to two anti-trolling websites. Automattic's legal counsel rejected the subpoena, citing numerous legal deficiencies including violations of the First Amendment and privacy rights. Commenters on one of the anti-trolling sites then offered up their own names and addresses in response to the threatened disclosure of IP addresses by Prenda Law. For now, the subpoena appears unlikely to be enforced as Prenda Law attorneys have sought to skip an upcoming court hearing.
