1. Thanksgiving 2013
Thanksgiving here is so different than it is in 1630! They have this thing called football,
where people wear helmets and throw a ball to score. They have something called electricity, and
it can power machines to make food! They have turkey, but also other interesting foods. They
call some of these foods sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, pie, green bean casserole, and
cranberry jelly. I have never heard of such things.
They have family from different places come to visit, that do not live in the same area as
themselves. They do not have colonies, but communities are what they call them. I do not see
any Indians around either, I just see family members! Their houses are also different than ours.
They are not made of stacked wood and open to the outside. They have a much harder material,
they call it brick. They put them together and cement them with a type of paste I believe. Their
technological advancements are sure to make a bright future for our children! They are dressed
in nice clothing, but they do not wear dresses and bonnets and hats, they wear “jeans” or
“denim” which wrap around their legs. They wear so many different colors and combinations!
They also seem to wear the colors of the trees outside, and they say that it is custom to do that.
They say it is part of celebrating the past and the time of the year. So many things have changed,
but the reason for thanksgiving is still the same!
